I'm gonna let go of the armor
Let off the power that I've been lighting
Not afraid of the monsters, of the nightmares
That I've been fighting

Easy to run, harder to stay
Finding colors in the grey
You thought I was done
But I've gotta go on
I fell twice, now I'm twice as strong

I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home
I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home

I had to take all of the wrong ways
All of the wrong ways
As I couldn't see
All the signs, all the mistakes
Pointing one way to get back to me

Easy to run, harder to stay
Finding colors in the grey
You thought I was done
But I've gotta go on
I fell twice, now I'm twice as strong

I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home
I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home

My soul is a map, my heart is a compass
I am the road
There's only one way to go
This is the way back home
My soul is a map, my heart is a compass
I am the road
There's only one way to go
This is the way back home

I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home
I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces (I've been trying)
Only one way to go
This is the way back home

It does sound like a typical song by Lesley, but this has a little more serious tone than last year.
Definitely. "Maps" got a more mature sound than that tweeny "Story of My Life".

The Avril Lavigne / Katy Perry sound is still tangible, the chorus actually has similar elements to the one of Story of My Life... But I dare say Maps still feels like it has a bit more identity and Lesley makes it more of her own.
I agree. This song sounds more like it's written by her and for her. Whereas "Story of My Life" seems more like it's a rejected album track from Kelly Clarkson's 2nd album that is written for Kelly Clarkson.

Having said that, I still find "Maps" pretty meh. There is nothing to latch on from the song melodically. And Lesley herself doesn't seem to be a very good "live" vocalist so I am not having high hopes she is going to be impressive 'live'. Ireland's stagings are usually pretty elaborated so hopefully they can elevate the song up.

I am very surprised most of you are so positive and generous with your rating for this pretty OK-ish song.
I am giving this a 5 as of now.

Well this is a very pleasant surprise! A huge improvement from last year imo. She gives us the same nostalgic vibes but with more maturity and style. I would have loved a touch of traditional instrumentation and for Lesley to flex her vocal range a bit (it feels static) but Ireland can be proud of this.

Will it qualify? Maybe not.
Does it deserve to qualify? Absolutely!

:7: points for now.

After the first listening, I thought, the song is "just" ok, but already grow on me after the next 2-3 times listening. Well done, Ireland :-)

You know those American love movies? Like the ones where J. Lo. or Lindsay Lohan are present? "Maps" could easily be part of the soundtrack of these movies 😀 Quiet! It's not an insult! I love these movies and songs! 😍 A tub of ice cream, a can of spray cream, a blanket, some handkerchiefs to wipe away tears and... let's go! 😂 I'm a sentimental and I love it when life us presented as a fairy tale with a happy ending 💓

Vote 7 for me! "Maps" is in fourth place in my ranking 😉 This song nearly overtook my friend Jendrik! 😃😆

Total garbage, as far as i'm concerned. I don't get why Ireland and the UK keeps sending songs in the same genre, that never ever does well.... they're really not trying at all!

This is a huge step up from last year! 2020 Ireland was very near the bottom of my ranking.
Maps is quite ok for it's genre - BUT this is not the kind of music I will put in my playlist. Not at all. And it will probably stay on my personal right side of the scoreboard.
