United Kingdom UNITED KINGDOM 2024 - Olly Alexander - Dizzy

Yeah, can we please not do this. He's getting an absolute shitstorm of abuse at the moment, and he's clearly not in a good place - this isn't about how competitive his entry is or isn't. The insinuation that he's not going to bother because he's not the favourite feels like kicking the man when...

Who will qualify from each SF?

Prediction below. More than happy to be roasted for this one  I have Moldova going through on the expectation that they're going to bring it with the staging, like they've done so often in the past and that will push them into qualifying, and a prediction that Slovenia will flop a bit...

Who will qualify from each SF?

You might be right on a few of these - many of the 12s for Israel here are for countries that I didn't see a great alternative for (mainly in the case of Spain and Norway). France is hard because Israel/Armenia are the top 2 on lock anyway but knowing the balance is hard. It's very tricky...

Who will qualify from each SF?

Unfortunately, yeah. Albania has incredible diaspora support in this semi, and I don't see a world where it's not qualifying in a 100% televote system. Czechia could easily outperform Latvia and San Marino, but I don't think any of them will do well I'm afraid. Latvia has Estonia and I can see...

Who will qualify from each SF?

Very preliminary, pre-running order, wild prediction of points in Semi 2, now that we know all the entries. Maybe I'm underestimating Greece's chances here and overthinking the really low score last year, but I see this getting put early in its half and getting cannibalised a bit by Armenia...

(... so maybe this is the) General Discussion Thread

This. It's one of those things where having more jurors feels like it would be fairer because 5 does feel really small. But if you increase the number of jurors, you eliminate some of the noise and eccentricity in individual jurors votes, and Eurovision needs that noise. I don't really want to...

I'm going to call this other 'new change' now - they're probably going to move to the Junior Eurovision voting method (other than voting for your own country). No more voting for the same entry multiple times - everyone gets to vote for exactly three countries, probably using the Eurovision app...

    Sweden SWEDEN 2024 - Marcus & Martinus - Unforgettable

Sweden going first might make them a bit... 'forgettable'. I'll see myself out.

Iceland ICELAND 2024 - Hera Björk - Scared of Heights

Apparently Hera WILL be going to Eurovision: https://www.ruv.is/frettir/innlent/2024-03-11-ruv-sendir-heru-i-eurovision-407067 In my opinion? Good. It would have felt wrong to send Bashar under the circumstances and would have been really unfortunate to lose Iceland.

Israel ISRAEL 2024 - Eden Golan - Hurricane

If I were to try and take everything else away from this, I'd probably like this a lot. Yes, it's quite a basic ballad structure, but Eden has a nice voice and the song builds nicely. It might even scrape into my top 5 this year under different circumstances. But I can't really judge it properly...

    Sweden SWEDEN 2024 - Marcus & Martinus - Unforgettable

Sweden in my top 3 for the 3rd year in a row. I know a lot of people get frustrated with Sweden doing well, but for personal taste, they deliver (almost) every time for me. Overall I do think Melo has gotten weaker, but they still end up choosing great acts in the end.

United Kingdom UNITED KINGDOM 2024 - Olly Alexander - Dizzy

This really works for me. I liked, but didn't love the song on release, but the small changes and harmonies they've added, particularly in the last 30 seconds are really strong and make this feel like it has a more satisfying progression, whereas in the studio the part after the spoken word...

Greece GREECE 2024 - Marina Satti - Zari

For personal taste? Just too Greek for me, as bad as that is to say. I, on paper, LOVE that they're sending something so clearly Greek, but at the same time it's not something I would ever personally enjoy. There's definitely a huge audience for this sort of thing though and it's a smart choice...

Australia AUSTRALIA 2024 - Electric Fields - One Milkali (One Blood)

I do worry this will struggle to qualify, but I actually really like this, albeit not as much as 2000 and Whatever which would have been my number 1 of 2019 had it been selected. It's joyful and calm, and there's definitely a space for that amongst the noise that is Eurovision 2024....
