For this year's last edition, Sweden is sending one of our most known and internationally acclaimed Pop singers of all time, no other than Robin Carlsson, simply known to the public as
Robyn. Before diving into the singer's 20+ years' career, let's look into the current and the entry for this month.
Honey is the second single, and title song, taken from Robyn's 8th solo studio album released this autumn which is the singer's first solo album in nearly eight years time. The song manages to mix both the modern Nordic-styled Electro-Dance-Pop with sensuality and warmth mostly brought by Robyn's vocals and sense for melodies and productions. While not being a direct dance-floor banger, it is a smooth grower that fits as well listening by yourself at home or have ending a wild night out with.
Before properly debuting on the music scene at the age of just around 15/16 years old back in 1995 with her debut single
You've Got That Somethin', Robyn had already had some experience in the entertainment business lending her voice at the age of 10 to the animated movie
Resan till Melonia (
The Journey to Melonia) back in 1989 as well as recording the theme song
Du kan alltid bli nummer ett (
You Can Always be Number One) for the TV-Show
Lilla Sportspegeln in 1991 at the age of 12.
As previously mentioned, Robyn released her debut single back in 1995 in Sweden, which was followed by the release of her debut album
Robyn is Here the same year. The album would later on be re-released internationally and would also give Robyn her first international success and so far only top. 10 positions on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts with the singles
Do You Know (What It Takes) and
Show Me Love.
For her follow-up album
My Truth, which got released in 1999, as well as for her third release, the 2002 titled-
Don't Stop the Music, Robyn would still keep her R&B influenced sound from the debut but move a bit closer to Electro-Pop, which eventually would become her signature sound late or on. Due to creative differences, Robyn parted from her label of ten years and started her own record label
Konichiwa Records. The first release on her newly started label would be the single
Be Mine, released in 2005, followed later on by her fourth solo album, the self-titled
Robyn, which would later on be released in an international version in 2007 including the single
With Every Heartbeat, a collaboration with Swedish Electro-Pop producer and artist Andreas Kleerup. The single would become Robyn's first (and so far only) UK #1 hit. Robyn would again achieve some international success and acclaim with the lead single
Dancing On My Own, taken from her fifth album, the 2010-
Body Talk pt.1, the
song would later on be covered by British singer, and former
Britain's Got Talent participant as well as winner of the
FSC#109 - March 2018 edition, Calum Scott and was released as the singer's debut single and became a top. 3 hit in Australia and the UK.
Now this marks the first time for Robyn as a solo act in the FSC, however Robyn is no stranger to the contest, being entered three times already for Norway for her collaborations with the Norwegian electro music duo
Röyksopp (who Robyn also released a collaboration EP together with titled
Do it Again in 2014) with
The Girl And The Robot (FSC#4 - June 2009),
Do it Again (FSC#65 - July 2014) and latest in the FSC#72 - February 2015 edition with
Monument, earning her two top. 10 FSC positions with the former two.
