ESC 1994: RTE provided a big orchestra, yet Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan didn't use it for the Irish entry "Rock 'n' Roll Kids" - Paul and Charlie played the guitar and grand piano themselves without accompaniment from the orchestra, and won with 226 points (the highest to-date at the time)!

Probably my favourite Irish winning entry from the 1990s.

"Birds", "Crisalide" and "Gravity" are all solo female entries, presumably to be performed without any particular props or backup dancers, with unconventional song structures and somewhat similar subject matter! And all 3 are major favorites for winning!

Anyone notice a circular motif in the stagings this year? Montenegro has circular helmets, Russia a bunch of illuminated globes, Belarus one GIANT silver globe, Ireland large circular drums, and Ukraine a "magic" circle.... would be funnier if it had all been in Globen instead, but maybe they're all making up for the fact that it isn't :D

ESC 2000 was in Sweden and Portugal withdraw that year. Denmark won and we came back. This time, we have withdraw (again when Sweden is hosting it), the big favourite to win is Denmark and RTP has informed the portuguese website (escportugal) that they want to comeback next year.

hum...

In the year that SWAG became a mainstream term, we have the dullest dressed male performers imaginable :?

The ultimate irony that I can think of is despite the fact that the  entry of 1978 received "nul points" from the juries, the people loved the song and it spent 20 weeks on the Norwegian charts

Serbia won in 2007, not even one year after the independence of Montenegro. This means the country's frontier was stable for less than a year. They won with a song called "Molitva", which means "Prayer". That's the same title of the first song brought to the contest by Portugal in 1964 ("Oração" means "Prayer"). However, Portugal never won and it is one of the countries of the world with its frontier stable for the longest time.

Opinion of 98% fans, that in 2010 Turkey was criminally overrated, but Germany deserved victory.

Funny, that I haven't noticed this before, but the beginning of both "The social network song" and "Crisalide" starts with "uuh" :D

In 2002, Latvia took part in Eurovision only thanks to Portugal, who withdrew from Eurovision 2002 (17 best countries in 2001 were allowed to compete in 2002, but Latvia came 18th)... And they won!!!

In 2004 that Istanbul and Turkey hosted the contest, we had this top 5: Ukraine, Serbia & Montenegro, GREECE, TURKEY, CYPRUS! :)
