Both countries were very silent until recently. The Croatian broadcaster had a closed call for entries: they asked a couple of composers to send them songs that they would then propose to popular singers. There were even rumors that a national final would be held with three artists, but yesterday, HRT surprised the fans with some teasing pictures announcing that they will reveal the Croatian representative for Lisbon today.
It turned out to be Franka Batelić. She already participated at the Croatian national final, Dora, in 2009 and 2010. Franka became famous after winning the talent show Showtime in 2007. For the past few years, she took a pause in her career, but last year, she came back with the single S tobom (With you), and it became an instant hit.
Her Eurovision entry is called Crazy and is written by Branimir Mihaljević, whose song already represented the country back in 2010. The song will be presented to the public on February 26th.
MRT, the Macedonian national broadcaster was also silent until a couple of weeks ago when they made an open call for songs for composers from all around the world, leaving the ultimate decision to the broadcaster to select the performer of their choice.
Today, the Instagram account of Stisni Play, a music show hosted by their Head of Press, posted that Eye Cue will represent the country this May in Portugal.
They are a pop/rock band performing since 2007. They’ve participated at numerous festivals in Macedonia and won a lot of prizes. Bojan Trajkovski plays the guitar and serves as a vocalist, while Marija Ivanovska is the lead singer. Their song is called “Lost & found” and will be published at a later date.
As we wait of their song, here is something what we could expect to hear in Lisbon.
What do #YOU think of these choices? Are you excited for their entries? What direction would you like to see the two nations go?
