Goedenavond iedereen! We are back for the second Belgian showcase. Tonight’s show saw the release of the final four entries of Eurosong 2025, the upcoming Belgian national final, which will air on Saturday 1 February.

The purpose of this show is to introduce the songs with live vocals, and to get to know the four participating artists. The full acts -with the vision for Basel- will be premiered during the Final on the 1st of February.

Last week oversaw the release of the following songs:

  • Grace – “Pull up”
  • LEEZ – “Perfectly imperfect”
  • Le Manou – “Fille à papa”
  • LENN – “Air balloon”

If you wish to read more about last week’s selection, you can do so in our linked article.

Tonight’s showcase featured the songs from Mentissa, Red Sebastian, Jelle Van Dael and Stefanie Callebaut.

Jelle Van Dael sings “Monster”

Jelle Van Dael is an established name in Flemish show business. Belgians love a good techno/dance track and as the frontwoman of the dance group LASGO, Jelle has had her fair share of hits and on-stage experience during the 2010s

After a musical hiatus (during which she was mainly a tv host for music broadcaster JIM TV) of a few years, Jelle is now ready to go solo and released a few new singles, the most success of which was “Just to be loved”.

Jelle’s song for Eurovision is “Monster”, a dance pop composition by Jelle herself and former Eurosong participant Udo Mechels.

Mentissa serves “Désolée”

For those who have followed The Voice internationally, the name “Mentissa Aziza” my ring a bell. The Flemish singer, originally from Denderleeuw, East Flanders, is a serial The Voice participant: First in the Junior version of The Voice Flanders (2014, team Natalia), which she win, then The Voice of Holland (2018, team Lil’ Kleine), and finally in The Voice: La Plus Belle Voix (2021, team Vianney), where she finished third place.

Since her participation in the French version of The Voice, Mentissa has been able to maintain a career in France and Wallonia, releasing several hit singles (the biggest of which are Et Bam and Mamma Mia) and even featuring as one of the coaches in The Voice Wallonia, while remaining fairly unknown in Flanders. With her participation in Eurosong – a longtime ambition of Mentissa- she’s hoping to break through in her native Flanders as well.

Her song “Désolée” (Sorry), described as a bouncy pop song, was composed entirely in the French language, like most of her singles. The song was -according to Mentissa herself- not written with the Eurovision Song Contest in mind, but was accepted by VRT nonetheless. Mentissa’s mentor on The Voice France, Vianney co-wrote the song alongside her.

Red Sebastian chants “Strobe Lights”

“Red Sebastian” is the alias of Seppe Herremans, an upcoming vocalist from Ostend. Like most of the participating artists in Eurosong, Seppe is no stranger to talent shows. Unlike his fellow participants however, he took the stage in Belgium’s Got Talent, blowing the jury away with his vocal range at the young age of 14. Seppe would ultimately make the final.

After his stint on BGT, Seppe decided to study Vocals at the conservatory of Ghent, where he was taught by mr. Because of You himself, Gustaph. So if you find Seppe’s vocal style to sound familiar, you now know who to blame.

Since his graduation, Seppe took the stage name “Red Sebastian” (named after his favourite disney character), profiling himself as a strong independent queer person and singer, with a powerful voice to match. He has been a longtime fan of Eurovision, having emailed VRT for several years before his selection this year. His song for Eurovision, “Strobe Lights” showcases Seppe’s massive vocal range and ability to hit falsetto’s with a technobeat. The intent is to create a certified banger for the contest!

Stefanie Callebaut performs “Gloria”

Described as “the oddball of the group”, Stefanie Callebaut is a well-established indie singer-songwriter who is fairly unknown with the general public. She’s mostly known for her participation in the talent show Star Academy (2006) and as the front woman of the group SX, an indie band that released 3 albums between 2009 and 2022, all met with critical acclaim.

Stefanie has since focused on establishing a solo career, and her first solo single, “Altijd Geld” (Always Money) was again met with critical acclaim. The song was performed entirely in the Western Flemish dialect.

Stefanie has opted for the English language however, with a song not particularly composed for the contest. Her song -titled “Gloria” after her young daughter- has been described as a quirky, sunny, theatrical ode to youth and happiness. (It’s also been compared to “Bohemian Rhapsody” but that seems a bit excessive). With her song she proves to be an indie cat amongst the pigeons, bringing the most unique sound in this Eurosong.

You can listen to “Gloria” below. What do #YOU think about her entry?

And this completes the Belgian line-up! We now know the eight songs competing for the Belgian ticket to Basel, on Saturday 1 February 2025. Do #YOU think this line-up is a winner? Who do #YOU support next Saturday? Your opinion matters to us, so let is know in the comments, or join our community on our Forum or in our Discord!
