Latvia is slowly finding their ground when it comes to the Eurovision Song Contest, with the nation now reaching 2 finals in a row, just like they did in 2015 & 2016, so now the upcoming task, will be to make it a third time in a row, something the country hasn’t achieved, since the very introduction of semi-finals.
Supernova 2026 – 124 entries
For 2026, Latvian broadcaster (LSM) has announced that they would expand their format, and it might even just be worth it as well. With an increase in the amount of entries received, the broadcaster can now even the field of the competition even more. The last few years also included a semi-final, but only one semi-final that is, with all the songs being placed into the semi-final, just to lower the amount ahead of the final.
That won’t be the case for 2026, since it is expected that two semi-finals will be held – can still be reconsidered by the broadcaster. Meaning that songs won’t be cluttered together in both the semi-final and the final, and instead contain a more diverse field for each show.
Now, a special jury will be in charge of selecting the best possible songs to take part in the national final. The aim is to boost the creativity and interest of Latvian music for both the Latvian and an international audience. To present the best of the best, of what Latvian music can offer. There is no date on when the selecting songs and acts will be known, as of yet.
For 2025, Tautumeitas were selected to represent Latvia with the song “Bur Man Laimi“. The group managed to qualify from the semi-final, where they even finished 2nd place, while in the final, the group managed to gather a total of 158 points, in order to finish in 13th place.
