Ireland is another country that has been busy lately, and last weekend, they made their decision on who should represent the nation at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which will also mark the nation’s 10th year anniversary since it’s debut.

The Irish also held once again a national final, in order to select their contestant for the competition, and it is noteworthy to point out, that when it comes to Junior Eurovision, Irish broadcaster TG4 is in charge. Known for broadcasting content largely in Irish, but also in other languages. Since Ireland’s debut in 2015, the country has only sent songs in Irish, with a bit of English in only a few entries.

This national selection has been held yearly as well, since Ireland’s debut, but as has been the case for the past several years, the show was only used in order to select the country’s representative, with the song being internally selected.

10 artist were selected to participate in the national selection, which lasted for the past month, and eventually with a few being eliminated at a time, during each show. Eventually, the final would only feature 3 of the 10 artists that took part from the beginning and these were the 3 participants, who took part in the final: (alphabetical order)

  • Brooke Stanton
  • Isla McManus
  • Lottie O’Driscoll Murray

In the final, each participant would sing two songs before advancing to the superfinal. In the normal final with the 3 participants, the young singers had to perform an Irish cover of a known song, while also perform a cover version of a well known Eurovision song. Here it was announced that Isla McManus and Lottie O’Driscoll Murray had advanced to the superfinal, where they once again would perform another song in an Irish style cover.

The jurors were in charge of selecting the winner, and this is when it became known, that Lottie O’Driscoll Murray had been selected as the winner and the next representative of Ireland, at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

It must be pointed out, that the song that will be performed in Tbilisi, Georgia, was not performed at any time, during the selection. However, it has at this point been revealed, that Lottie O’Driscoll Murray will be singing a song that’s titled “Rúin“, and the songwriters will be Ian James White, Jenny Ní Ruiséa, Nicky Brennan and Rob O’Connor.

No date has however been announced for when the song will be released, but will of course be released in due time.

While we wait for her song, what do #YOU think about this young singer and her talent and do #YOU have high expectations for a potential good result for Ireland this year?
