If you’ve ever wondered about what nyckelharpa is, well – you’re in luck, because the lovely band Gåte from Norway is with us today and they had plenty to talk about, so let’s dive right in!

Gåte share their particular satisfaction of their staging and performance – it conveys an intense emotion that the act is bringing – the elements of earth, wind, fog and water as the feeling “pours through”, according to them.

This goes hand in hand with their mysterious music video, although Gunnhild says that when they film their music videos, that are always out in nature, the weather is not really kind to them. “It’s my destiny as a singer in Gåte, when I do photoshoots and music videos, it’s never comfortable. It’s always out in the woods, out in the mountains, in nature, but that’s just a part of it,” she says.

They emphashize the dynamics in the song – the calm, the storm, the liberation that comes with it. Their message of listening to with the heart and staying open resonates with all of us, especially as it unites us in music.

If you enjoy Norwegian folk music entwined with metal and electronica, especially if you are interested in the super cool instruments they are using (they even played a little for us!) – check out Gåte!

About Gåte

Gåte had their breakthrough at the start of the 2000s and quickly went on to become something of a national treasure in Norway.

Their unique combination of traditional Norwegian folk music and explosive rock lifted them out of the rehearsal basement and onto some of the world’s biggest stages.

During this period, Gåte sold more than 100,000 albums, went straight to the top of the VG-lista chart and won the Spellemann Award 2002 for Best Newcomer.

The critically acclaimed band took a 12-year break before making a long-awaited return in 2017. Since then, Gåte has delivered concerts and new music to some fantastic reception and widespread acclaim.
