We are continuing with interviewing the Croatian artists competing in Dora 2025. Next on the list is Marin Jurić-Čivro whose music career skyrocketed after finishing third in the first season of a popular singing competition, The Voice Hrvatska.
Hello Marin, thank you for accepting our invitation to talk to us and present yourself to our readers at ESCUnited. Welcome! First, I’d like to ask you about submitting an entry to Dora this year. Did you plan it, or was it a spontaneous decision?
It was spontaneous. Chilling at the birthday party of our mutual friend, we commented “Baby Lasagna” and admired his success. Dečak (Ivan) suggested writing something for me in the near future, so we can send it to Dora 2025. I didn’t think too long to say “yes” to that idea! And the story continued as we spoke.
If our memory serves us well, you have already competed in 2020 with the song “Naivno”. It’s been five years already, but how much has that experience helped you and what are your biggest takeaways from back then?
Yes, this is my second time. I feel less nervous and anxious. This year, I prepared myself much better, mentally and physically. I was kinda stiff and I didn’t really enjoy my time in 2020. I didn’t prepare as much, so it kicked in when I had to go and perform. This time, I expect to shine in full.
Ivan Dečak, your mentor from the first season of The Voice Croatia, as well as one of last year’s participants in Dora, wrote the song, right? What does it mean to have such a big name from the Croatian music scene in your team?

We have known each other since my early days. He supported one of my first bands. I always admired his work! I have a lot to learn from him. And I have time to do so.
Could you tell us more about your entry “Gorjelo Je”? What would be the message of the song and what does the song mean to you?
“Gorjelo je” is a song about some imaginary boy who didn’t act when needed. And now he suffers the pain of regret. The message is; “If you feel the love, don’t let go easily.
That’s a lovely message indeed. Now, let’s shift to private life a bit. When you are not in the studio, how do you spend your free time? Are there any passions or hobbies our readers would be intrigued by or surprised to hear about?
I work in theatre in Virovitica. After the job, I usually take time to rest and plan my day. I love spending time with my two dogs and a cat. Sometimes, I catch myself admiring my Pokemon card collection. When the night is closing, I play some PlayStation games.
We won’t put any pressure on you, BUT… could you share with our readers something about your performance in Dora? Any hints to spark our imagination?
I can tell you that I will share my time on stage with someone. We will be simple and charming. Nothing flashy will happen. No acting or faking. Who I am in my four walls at home, I will try to perform as such.
As we are getting closer to finishing our conversation, how would you describe your music style? Is there any artist in particular that motivates you or influences your music?
My private music style is 80% metal genres. But the sound I put out for now, must be a little compromise. Some day, I will rock the world with a more heavy sound.
Thank you Marin for this wonderful conversation. Before we wrap up, is there any final message you’d like to share with our viewers at ESCUnited?
Spread the love and respect! Keep your fingers crossed for contestants.
Thank you so much Marin and we wish you the best of luck in Dora 2025!
