It’s been a while now since the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest concluded and for most, the return to the usual daily life has already kicked in, but Finland is already gearing up towards 2026.
Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2026
To put it bluntly, the news were revealed during the heating moments of the 2025 contest, just to show, that Finland are here to stay. The Finnish broadcaster (YLE) dropped the news ahead of the second semi-final.
The 2026 edition of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu – Simply known as “UMK” – will take place once again in Tampere, with the date for the show being 28th February 2026. This will also be the third year in a row, that the competition is held in this Finnish city.
Known as the “Nokia Arena – for sponsorship reason”, is the largest indoor arena in all of Finland, and will once again offer a great experience for people who plans on attending the show in 2026.
Tampere’s project manager, Maiju Viiki, even went on to say the following, regarding the arena hosting once again in 2026: (Online translation)
- “UMK’s role in the Finnish music scene is significant. We are really happy to have the competition in our city again, as the city is investing in the development of the local music industry in the coming years.”
At the moment, the rules for the upcoming edition are yet to be published, but are expected to follow the same structure, as it’s been in the past few years, with several artists taking part in the competition.
In 2025, Erika Vikman secured Finland their 5th qualification in a row, making it Finland’s now longest qualification streak. She topped it all off with her performance of “Ich Komme” by finishing on a combined 11th place, with a total of 196 points.
