🇫🇮 Finland: One Morning Left Disqualified from UMK 2025
Finnish broadcaster YLE has announced that One Morning Left and their song, “Puppy,” will no longer be a part of UMK 2025 due to a contract violation. Per the rules of the Finnish national final, a new competing artist will not replace the band, leaving the total number of entrants at six.
According to anonymous accusations, band member Mika Lahti allegedly communicated with a possible minor between 2007 and 2010. He has denied all accusations.
One Morning Left posted on their Instagram today, officially announcing the active breakup and stoppage of all band activities moving forward: “The accusations have come as a complete surprise to the members of the band, UMK, Yle and all parties and companies that worked together with the band. In light of this information, One Morning Left will not continue in UMK, and will withdraw.” You can find their full statement here.
UMK’s executive producer, Anssi Autio, commented on the matter: “The band has not fully complied with the competition’s rules, which involve the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest set by the EBU. These clearly state that such a rule violation is an unequivocal obstacle to Eurovision representation.”
Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2025 (UMK 2025) will take place on February 8th at the Nokia Arena in Tampere. The show will be hosted by Mikko Silvennoinen, Eva Frantz, Jasmin Beloued, Katri Norrlin, and Sanni.
The winner of UMK 2025 will represent Finland at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, held in Basel, Switzerland, this May.
