It’s been a downhill ride since this concept was re-introduced as the national final, but despite everything, the Spanish broadcaster (RTVE) remains resilient and are already setting their sail onto 2026.

The Austrians might be slightly busy during these days, but the Spanish are also busy trying to figure out, how to turn the tide and hit the success wave once again. Anyone interested in participating in the upcoming edition of the national final, can even already now submit their entries and can do so until the September 24th 2026 – 23:59 CET.
RTVE has even gone ahead and shared all the details, regarding rules for the 2026 contest. Further details regarding the rules can be found here, for anyone who might be interested.
To put it in short, the winning composition will be awarded a total of 150.000 Euros, with 100.00 going directly to the winner artist/group and the remaining 50.000 going to the songwriters. The Spanish broadcaster will also for 2026 focus more on the visual aspects, and offer a team to guide and help for the best possible staging.
The broadcaster also confirms, that once again two semi-finals and a final will take place. Dividing the total number of competing acts into both semi-finals, with the highest ranked ones from each semi-final competing in the final. The way the winner and qualifiers will be decided, will be done by 50% professional jury, 25% televote and 25% demoscopic voters.
At this moment, it is unknown how many and when the show will take place. It is expected that a total of 16 participants will take part, but the number could increase, dependent on the quality of the submitted entries.
For 2025, Melody was awarded with the task to make Spain proud in the final, with her song “Esa Diva“. Unfortunately, the diva could only gather 37 points from both the juries and the televote, which was only enough for a 24th place in the final, despite a starstruck performance.
