Another year, another edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in the history books. After tonight’s show, we finally know who has been given the task, of ending the non-qualification streak for the Danes.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025
It all came down to tonight, even before the 2024 contest had taken place, Denmark had already decided when and where their national final for 2025 would take place. It’s been a long road for the flat country and it definitely had a lot of pressure building up to it, when considering Denmark’s poor results lately in the contest.
Back in early February, we got the names and songs of the 8 acts that had been selected to compete in the Danish national final, and now a winner has been crowned. Before we get into that, let’s have a quick reminder of the 8 acts, who competed in the following order:
- Mariya – “I Belong To Me“
- Tim Schou – “Proud“
- Max Ulver – “Supernova“
- HervΓ© Toure – “Allez Allez“
- Maria Mathea – “Air“
- Adel The Second – “The Unluckiest Boy Alive“
- Sissal – “Hallucination“
- Andreas Kruse – “Hear My Prayer“
Of course, it’s not only a competition. It’s a musical celebration, and therefor it was only fitting to invite others to the party. Among the invited people, were both last years Danish representative SABA, as well as Denmark’s 1989 juvel Birthe KjΓ¦r.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025 – Results
If it ain’t broken, why fix it? The Danish broadcaster is still to this day, reminded about what disaster the 2023 voting system was, so to keep it simple, the same voting mechanic as 2024 was used once again. In case you’ve forgotten how it worked out, then the winner was decided by a jury and the televote, with each having 50% of the outcome.
However, the voting was done in two rounds. First round was opened the week prior to the show and re-opened once again during the live show, this would be the results of the televote. Meanwhile, a mixture of both multiple Danish juries, as well as international jury members, would then decide the remain 50% of the results. Combined, they would decide the top 3, which would move onto the superfinal.
The 3 acts who qualified for the superfinal were:
- Tim Schou
- Adel the Second
- Sissal
Now that we had our superfinalists, and with all 3 performing once again, the same mixture of voting panels were used. Here we instead got a more detailed view of the results, with the top 3 scoring a certain combined percentage, resulting in the following results:
- Sissal – 38%
- Tim Schou- 37%
- Adel the Second – 25%
With that Sissal has been declared the winner, and will now go onto representing Denmark at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. Denmark was during the allocation draw, picked to perform in the second half of the second semi-final, which will take place on 15th of May in Basel, Switzerland.
