Kyiv, 24 January 2022
UA:PBC, the Ukrainian broadcaster, have revealed the 8 competing artists for a ticket to Eurovision. They initially already revealed a longlist with artists consisting of 27. The list has been narrowed down to 8 for one grand final to find the Ukrainian representative at this year’s contest.
Here are the acts that will be competing in the final:
- Alina Pash – Тіні забутих предків
- Barleben – Hear My Words
- Cloudless – All Be Alright
- Kalush Orchestra – Stefania
- Michael Soul – Demons
- Our Atlantic – Моя Любов
- Roxolana – GIRLZZZZ
- Wellboy – Nozzy Bossy
Not all of the songs are out yet, so far only the songs from Cloudless, Michael Soul and Roxolana are out. There are no further details at the moment of writing when we can expect the other five songs. Former national final participant LAUD was shortlisted in the original press release, until UA:PBC learned that his song “Hear My Words” was publicly released in 2018. Since this breaks the participation rules he was disqualified and was replaced by Barleben at 23:38 Ukranian time on January 24th.
Vidbir usually hosts 16 artists and songs and works with two semi-finals. This year they changed it up slightly, halving the field and selecting the finalists internally. This final is planned to take place on Saturday, January 12. The Winner will be chosen by a jury-vote and a televote who will both weigh an equal amount.
Ukraine have been a strong Eurovision country in the past, their perfect qualification streak still stands today! In 2016 was the last time they were victorious. Jamala took home the victory for her country in 2016 with her song 1944. Last year’s entrant, “Shum” by Go_A placed an incredible 5th, even coming 2nd in the televote.
