With the dust now settled on this year’s Pabandom iš Naujo!, we got the opportunity to speak to this year’s Lithuanian representatives The Roop, who will be going to Rotterdam with the fiercely popular “Discoteque”.
We spoke to the band about the pressures of coming back to Eurovision, the support they have felt and how dance can liberate people…
Hello guys! Thank you for taking the time to speak to us. First of all, for those who somehow don’t know yet… who are The Roop? What should we know about the band?
Hello! We are a different kind of mainstream which is On Fire! We deliver music with a message, served with style and skill.
You’ve been selected again to represent Lithuania in Eurovision. What have you learned about yourselves through your experiences in Pabandom iš Naujo?
We learned that we are not a one-hit wonder. We also learned that we have a lot of people around us who support us, and we are very grateful for that.
What is the message behind your entry “Discoteque”?
We have already noticed with “On Fire” how music and dance affects people. Music and dance liberates everyone. There’s not a single person who cannot dance – it is innate. Dance is like a tool which can also heal scars. We called our song “Discoteque” without an “h”, because it is a different kind of discotheque.
How did the preparation for this year’s competition go compared to last year, and did you feel any pressure in coming up with a new song and performance?
We definitely felt the pressure, but we put a lot more effort and time into the preparation and came into the competition ready to make everyone dance!
If you could perform in any venue or festival in the world, where would it be and why?
No preference, but we will travel around the world one day!
What would be the first thing you did if you were to win Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam?
Dance, but not alone!
