Let's start. How are you today?
waittt is this now recodrding?
Hello! Today, well I've been good today, but I feel a bit sad now because I don't know what to send to the Nation Song Contest number 82. Apart from that, I'm happy. ^^
Stuck howso? Too many entries you want to send, or you cant think of any?
As Orian has already said in the convo, I can repeat it and it's exactly how my situation is; a girl has no idea what to wear today, even though she has a full locker of clothes. I have many songs I'd like to enter, but I don't feel I really love any of them *that* much.
Haha I see. I get the same feeling (about songs, not clothes!) but always make a spur of the moment decision and then ban myself from changing it, but that's just me. You have been in NSC quite a while, yes? How many editions?
I've been in since NSC 57, so yeah, quite a long time has now passed, but, comparing to most of the rest, I'm still a little baby, haha. I don't know how much I will keep playing, I just know I don't want to withdraw at all.
That's much longer than me anyway. In fact you hosted my debut edition! You have achieved some incredible results lately, with artists like the Saturdays, Liviu Hodor Natasha Beddingfield. Do good results in NSC give you a boost in your everyday life? Does it make you feel better knowing that your entry choices are always appreciated by many people?
Well, it's defintely a good thing, but, tbh, I don't think about NSC so much while doing everyday things (well, ok, I do think about NSC when I am being driven to Uni, since I listen to music all the time and many of the songs I've got have participated in the NSC), but it's always good that a certain song I adore is recognised well by the community.
You're known for your love of RBN and Natasha, but recently you've been expanding your horizons to artists like Irish Stew and Coldplay. How would you best describe your taste in music, or do you not like label the music you listen to?
Oh, that's a very interesting question. Now let me be Jochen for a second and give you a very diplomatic answer.
I was told many times my taste was bad and all my entries were very unoriginal and not various at all. I won't comment on my taste being bad because that has not deserved any type of a comment, the latter thing, I completly don't agree, it just seems people do not remember any of my "out-standing" entries, if I may say so.
I sent rock (Ewa Farna), I sent turbo-folk (Stoja), I sent ballad (I Dreamed A Dream), I sent synth-pop (Coldplay) and now I sent celtic folk.
Tell me, is that "all same and "not various"? But yes, Irish Stew was mostly sent because I'd like to remove a boog label my country has got, in HSC we call it "softići, popići i guzići", don't know how to translate, but yes, a very bad description.
I do think it is harsh to judge someone on their taste like that. I mean as long as you're sending songs you love, which you have been doing, no one should be in a position to critisize you for that. You mentioned HSC. Youre part of a very large Ex-Yu community here at NSC. How important is it for you to, in an English-speaking forum, to have such a large sub-community who speak the same language as you?
It's not *that* large, haha, only 10 of us. ^^ Well, I can tell you it's much easier when you have someone who is like you, ie. speaks the same language, it's much easier in the communication and when there's something you cannot say in English, we understand each other. We also sometimes have ex-yu convos, Juki and me often choose songs for NSC together, we all watch recaps in convos and it's much easier to comment on songs in your mother language. I don't feel like a foreigner at all.
How very nice! Tight bonds is what's so great about NSC, isnt it? Other than the wonderful people, what's your favourite thing about NSC?
Totally. ^ My favourite thing about NSC... I don't know how I can answer than question, it's just too much of amazin' things. It's not everything 'bout the music we share with each other, but the personal connection among us. Some NSC'ers have become persons I really love talking to, I will probably never forget my chats with Jochen and/or Norm till 6 AM, I'll never forget Juki's information about every possible artist, I'll never forget the moments when strajker randomly talks about what happened to him today (and I should I mention how much I laugh with him? If I had a bad day, I always know where to come), I'll never forget a meeting with Ans and Ronny, I'll never forget my whole-day chats with Liam about everything that can be talked about, I'll never forget Madde and her amazing advices, I'll never forget when Michel and me comment on girls, I'll never forget Gamze's and my talks about how boog Bosnia and Turkey are, hahaha. I just... There are too many "I'll never forget" things about NSC. After all of them, it comes music, but not the least important one
- if there wasn't music, we'd never become this what we are.
Wow. Incredible answer! It's very clear that NSC means a lot to you and it is touching to see how much the people in it have affected you so much. I'm sure most other people here feel the same way and have had the same experiences and as you say, it's the music that underlies all of these wonderful tales of friendship. So you would recommend to anyone to join NSC?
See, that's where I'm going to give you a very positive answer. ^^ And you know why? Simply because NSC is, for me, a special place among us, NSC'ers, where we can say whatever we want, where we can do whatever we want, where we can just be what we are, and there's not a lot of places similar to NSC. Of course, anyone who's willing to join is more than welcome if (s)he is looking for a place where you can come after a bad day and again be happy, the place where you'll never be judged for your acts, as long as you're a good person. Just... Amazing. I still don't know for a word that can describe my personal connection with the NSC.
Maybe NSCmazing? Seems legit, haha.
i'm sorry if i take some time to write down the answers, i just wanna express my feelings with the right words
No it's fine. I know how hard it can be to express yourself sometimes. It is a really unique online community in it's positivity and closeness. How did you first discover NSC and how long did it take you to fall in love with it?
Pfff, the latter is pointless to be answered. ^^ I've been a member of Croatian forum for more than 2 years now, and, as strajker has been a member of all possible forums also, we met there. He gave me 12 points for Vanilla Ninja's "Blue Tattoo" and I thanked him and then he said I should finish higher and asked me if I had MSN, so he added me and he was telling me about NSC all the time (literally!) and when I first checked it, I wasn't so interested, it just seemed like another contest, but the positive thing was that strajker was hosting so he explained me all the stuff, and I just said: "Okaaay, I'm going to participate there.", and I applied for the Waiting List and I didn't wait for a single edition on the WL, haha. ^^ Then since, I've been addicted. How long it took me to fall in love with it; like... 5 minutes? Haha. But seriously, when I had my very first MSN NSC convo, I really started to loooooove this community. And I still do! <333
Hehe ^^ You spent a very short amount of time on the WL, you must feel so lucky you joined before the WL became huge? What do you think of the current WL situation? What would do to improve NSC for your fellow board members?
I'm glad the craze about WL is now gone and, as I could see, some members of it have been removed due to the rules, and that's alright. I slightly doubt I have any clear opinion about the WL situation, whatever gets approved, it'll never happen everyone are satisfied, so... I really have no idea, but the new rule seems to work, so we shall wait and see. :] And yes, I am very happy I joined the NSC riiiight before the WL had started to grow.
Of course, yes, not everyone will agree on everything, and sadly this sometimes leads to drama. Do you think there is too much drama on NSC? Or do you think it is right that people are so open and honest about their opinions? Is drama necessarily a bad thing?
Hmm... I had to think for a couple of minutes about this and no, there's not too much drama. Of course, I didn't include those "dramas" about results, I just find them nice jokes. ^ "Drama" can be both good and bad, it's good if you see something wasn't ok and you make a drama and the thing gets fixed, but it's bad if you cause a drama without any important reason, however, I can get the moments when Gamze defends Gaga in the case someone says a bad thing about her, she's a very important person in Gamze's life and it's just sweet to see someone is such a huge fan of someone else, after all, we all get in a defensive mood when someone says something harsh about something we love, don't we?
Ah yes, naturally. Emotions can run high sometimes, espcecially in a contest as hectic as NSC. One last question before we finish; favourite NSC entry ever?
My own or someone else's?
Well, umm... It's completly obvious my own fave entry is "All Fired Up", since it won and that's something a-mazing, I guess you know the emotions we have for all of our entries, especially the ones that have won. Apart from that one, it's probably "Sweet Love", it was dedicated to someone special (you'd know what I'm talking about if you read the lyrics), apart from that, it's the best Romanian song I've ever heard (and I have really heard a lot of them), so... Yes, those two are the most special ones, but, tbh, I really dislike comparing my own entries. Aaaand my fave entry of someone else, I gotta say Fervorosia has been my fave nation, and I have at least 80% of their entries on my iPod, and their best song was "Helele", it's really one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard in my life. There's many others, of course, Berceniland, Vedatistan, Reignland, Zaprya, Serenate & Clair have all had entries I really loved, but yes, it's "Helele". ^^ And my fave entry by a pot-3 nation is definitely RLD's "Mr. Gaunt Pt 1000", I cannot tell you any other song that wakes so much emotions
Fantastic! The amount of passion you have for NSC, both on and off the forum is outstanding. It has been a pleasure speaking to you. I wish you all the best for NSC 82 and beyond!
Aww, thank you, I really enjoyed the interview as well and I'm glad I could finally say everything I've thought about this community, this game and forum. And your first journalistic experience is amazing, duhh, you're better than most of Bosnian journalists. The best of luck.
