The Swiss entry for the 2017 contest in Kiev, Ukraine will be selected through the national final Die Entscheidungsshow this Sunday. Today, Shana Pearson is going to talk to us about her entry “Exodus”

Hello Shana
First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ?

I’m doing great thank you! My name is Shana Pearson and I’m half American half Swiss. I currently live in Lausanne. I started singing when I was 6 years old and ever since I was little I knew that was my life, what I wanted to do. I’m so honoured to be part of the Swiss finals for Eurovision.
What can you tell us about yourself?
I’m a very passionate person and I like to have a good time. No matter what happens I try to keep only the positive, I think that comes from my mom!
Your song that you will be presenting for the Die Entscheidungsshow is “Exodus”. What can you tell us about the song?

This song was written and produced by Swedish producers and songwriters:  Denniz Jamm and Andreas Stone and Mahan Moin.

It’s a very powerful song I believe. We all sometimes get stuck in something we no longer want (a relationship, a job, a lifestyle, etc) and this is a message of hope, of freeing yourself from that negative thing you no longer want.

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for Die Entscheidungsshow and Eurovision?

Normally, I write my own lyrics but I’ve always been open to collaborating with other songwriters. The Eurovision opportunity came up and I was introduced to the producers and songwriters and the song and I completely clicked.

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

It was always a tradition when I was little to watch it all together with my parents and my brother. Ever since, I try to watch it every year. It’s the only music show that brings different countries together and it’s truly magical.

I absolutely fell in love with Mans Zelmerlöw and ever since I’ve been following his music, downloaded all his songs. I was also blown away by Loïc Nottet! Those are definitely my 2 sweethearts of Eurovision artistically speaking.

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest , where would you dream to do a performance?

I‘m already so thankful for all the performances I was able to do. Doing Justin Bieber’s support act with Big Ali in 2013 was the highlight. My dream would be to perform at venues like Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland or Coachella 🙂

Do you think performing at the Eurovision Song Contest will have a positive impact on your career?

Definitely! I know that people watching Eurovision are so supportive and once they like an artist they are loyal for life. I hope people will like Exodus and will like my performance and most importantly, if I get to represent Switzerland as my country, I hope Swiss people will be proud! 🙂

What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?
“Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Follow your dreams”. I’ve always applied this and trust me I’ve had people tell me: oh but you know everyone wants to become a singer, you’ll never make it. Get a real job! If I had listened to all these people, I would’ve quit singing a long time ago and hard work and perseverance have always paid off so..

What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?
That I manage my own little career on my own: financing my EP, my music videos, dealing with contracts, etc etc. I don’t know if this is actually surprising or not lol..

Can you tell us about your first experience with music?

My first experience with music has got to be when I was 6 years old and I was selling lemonade on my street for 1 chf / glass. I had Whitney Houston ” I will always love you” in the background. I put it on repeat for days and days and that was the revelation. I knew I wanted to become a singer. I tried to imitate Whitney Houston’s vocal skills and practiced and practiced.
