The EBU and the Dutch trio of broadcasters responsible for the hosting of the cancelled 2020 contest have tonight confirmed that Rotterdam will host Eurovision 2021, with an emotional video closing the Europe Shine a Light show tonight.

The question mark had hung over the contest’s hosting in Rotterdam since the 2020 contest’s cancellation, with fears exacerbated by the Dutch government’s announcement of a ban on public gatherings until a vaccine for COVID-19 is found.

Indeed, we cannot confirm what will happen a year from now, and nor can we begin to predict, but the indication from the EBU and the Dutch host broadcasters is a positive indication that one way or another, Eurovision will be rightfully held on Dutch soil in May 2021.
