Romania’s national broadcaster TVR has confirmed the return of Selecția Națională, the traditional national selection process used by Romania to select their Eurovision entry, with a call for submissions opening today across social media and the broadcaster’s website.

Speaking about the return of the selection, the Romanian head of delegation Iuliana Marciuc shared her enthusiasm to return her country to the final for the first time since 2017 in Turin; “For me it is a great challenge, I have the experience of several national teams, I had the honor to be the head of the Romanian delegation and I strongly believe in our ability, of the TVR team, to obtain a new qualification in the Eurovision final”

The submission period for interested artists seems to be open from 26th November (this Friday) and will run until Sunday 19th December, according to the above trailer posted by the official Romanian Eurovision media channels.

Romania will be looking to bounce back after a number of years’ absence from the Eurovision Song Contest’s showpiece evening, with Ilinca & Alex Florea’s “Yodel It” marking the nation’s last appearance on the Saturday night final, finishing 7th in Kyiv in 2017.

Since then, Romania has failed to qualify with The Humans’ “Goodbye” in 2018, Ester Peony’s “On a Sunday” in 2019 and Roxen’s “Amnesia” in 2021, with the 2020 contest and Roxen’s initial participation cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is not yet known whether the contest will return to its multiple semi-final format or to a single evening competition.
