In a suspenseful photo finish, Gaia Cauchi of Malta took the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013 trophy tonight with her power ballad “The Start”. This is Malta’s first win in Junior Eurovision, coming after a two-year break from the contest.

Malta finished the contest with 130 points, just 9 ahead from runner-up Ukraine with Sofia Tarasova’s “We Are One”. Coming in third was Ilya Volkov of Belarus with his song “Poy so mnoy”. Each of the top three contestants received a trophy.

The show was hosted in Kiev by Timur Miroshnychenko together with 2013 Eurovision contestant for Ukraine Zlata Ognevich.
