The preparations for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest are in full swing. The show is scheduled for Saturday 18th February. Today, Raquela has spoken to us about her entry Ray of Light.

Hello

First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?

I am very good thank you. My name is Raquela, I am a teacher/ singer/ composer/ songwriter. I love kids, animals, my family, my friends, music and the arts. I love drawing in my free time, going for a jog, attending concerts, going out for a drink or two, watching films and series. I’d love to travel more. I also love dancing and intend on taking some dance lessons when I get the time! I am a Christian and I form part of a Christian band known as ‘Pilgrim & King’.

Your song that you will be presenting for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is “RAY OF LIGHT”. What can you tell us about the song?

It is a beautiful, simple yet effective song, with a catchy tune and meaningful lyrics. The song serves as a message to people to go out into the world and live life to the full. And when the world can sometimes get scary or seem too big, they can remember that there will always be someone (could be family, friend, etc..) who loves them and will do anything in their power to keep themsafe and happy should they need help.

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Eurovision?

I did not write this song but I can definitely relate to it.

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

I can’t say I watch it every single year but I have followed it since 2005. My favourite entry is ‘Euphoria’ by Loreen.

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest , where would you dream to do a performance?

I’d love to be the voice of a soundtrack of a well known film, I’d love to perform that live with a beautiful orchestra abroad. I’d also like to perform at the Royal Albert Hall.

Do you think performing at the Eurovision Song Contest will have a positive impact on your career?

Possibly. I never think that far though. I just enjoy the moment, performing as best I can and gaining experience.

What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?

My hair colour has changed! Haha…. I may seem reserved on stage, on tv, and at interviews, but I am very open, crazy, fun around my friends. I like to be slightly reserved on camera though, as I don’t like sharing my personal life too much with many people I do not know.

Where do we find you on a Sunday Afternoon?

At home having coffee with biscuits, or at the cinema, or going for a walk with friends or family. As long as it’s relaxed.

What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?

Always pay your debts, and when you have a job, remember that money comes and goes, don’t make it your priority in life.

If your life was a song title, what would it be?

‘Ray of Light’ hehe……honestly….I face challenges each day, but I know I have people to count on and I know that wherever I am, whatever I am facing, God’s given me strength, hope and faith to work through it.

What is a typical day like for you?

I wake up at 5:30am, have my breakfast and head towards school. I spend 6 hours with little, naughty and loving children. Then I head home to rest. I exercise and do some chores in the house. I might meet a friend/ have a meeting/ just spend time with family. Shower, brush my teeth and sleep ☺
