She’s the lady who needs no introduction to Eurovision fans. Now on her seventh attempt to reach the Eurovision Song Contest (5 times for Latvia, twice for Lithuania), Samanta spoke to us about the quick turnaround on her song and how she was born to be a singer!

Hello Samanta! First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you? Can you introduce yourself? What can you tell us about yourself?

Hey!! Thank you so much! Sorry for the delay! I’m really excited about Supernova, I can’t wait for the time to get on stage! I’m Samanta Tīna, a singer from Latvia, coming from the small town of Tukums! Singing has been my passion forever! I am so thankful to God for giving me such a strong voice!

Your song that you will be presenting for Supernova is “Cutting the Wire”. What can you tell us about the song?

I wasn’t even planning to participate in Supernova 2019. In autumn, I participated in a songwriting camp called “Riga Live”, in which I ended up with one team with Arnis and Lisbee. They’re a great team and we’re becoming new friends. We were forced to create a song from zero in eight hours! And so came “Cutting the Wire”.

The song is entirely “me”, according to my nature, I seem to have been heard. On a recent registration day for Supernova 2019, Arnis called me and asked to try to start with that song. I wasn’t sure about it, but I am grateful to him today, for persuading me, as I love this song!

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

Of course I have followed Eurovision since I can remember. It’s an event once a year that needs to be watched and listened to, mandatory, no exceptions! Of course, I have had a vivid memory of our Marie N with a win and Sweden’s Loreen. And many others?

Do you think performing at the Eurovision Song Contest would have a positive impact on your career?

Definitely! It’s one of my greatest and unfulfilled ambitions! The main thing is to get to Eurovision – after that there is a great deal of work on the way to make it a contribution to my career in the future!

What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?

Don’t worry about trifle things, ’cause everything is a trifle thing!

What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?

I’m a citizen of Latvia, but my official place of living is Lithuania!

Can you tell us about your first experience with music?

My mom noticed that I liked to sing, but it was quite strange and interesting, and from the beginning she thought there was nothing wrong with me. When I was a baby, she noticed when there was a song on the radio that I would get to my feet in my bed with my mouth open. I was swinging right and left, but it was all without sound. Mom realized I was playing like I was singing, so she realized I was going to be a singer!

Thanks for your time. We wish you the best of luck for the upcoming competition. Maybe we see you in May in Tel Aviv!
