Latvia’s selection is becoming notorious for giving opportunities to bands and alternative musicians, and in the guise of rock quartet Laime Pilnīga this year is no different. We spoke to the band about their early musical education and how the inspiration for “Awe” came to them!

Hello Laime Pilnīga! First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you? Can you introduce yourselves? What can you tell us about yourselves?

Thank you very much, we’re feeling great and excited. We are rock band called “Laime Pilnīga” from Riga, Latvia. We are sharing the stage together since 2006, and have spent a lot of time touring and making music together.

The song that you will be presenting for Supernova is “Awe”. What can you tell us about the song?

Our song is about inspiration, positive experiences, the energy of life and awe.

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for Supernova and Eurovision?

The inspiration came from a dream. This was the song which suited this competition well, so we decided to give it a go!

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

It’s huge festival with lots of colours and great atmosphere. We try to watch the contest every year and mostly we keep our fingers crossed for Latvia.

Do you think performing at the Eurovision Song Contest would have a positive impact on your career?

Of course! The Eurovision Song Contest is a great opportunity to reach the hearts of many beautiful people with our music.

What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?

There is no plan B.

What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?

Well, we never had serious fights in our band, although we are very different people and we’ve been together for some time now. We hope to continue this miracle for rest of our lives.

Can you tell us about your first experiences with music?

There is one thing in common for all of us – our parents used to listen to different kind of music on tapes and vinyl. Mostly it was music from the 70s and 80s, artists like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Tina Turner and many others. So we all had a very musical childhood!

Thanks for your time. We wish you the best of luck for the upcoming competition. Maybe we see you in May in Tel Aviv!
