After our lunch, it’s time to feast on Israel’s uptempo extravaganza. More details on Eden Alene’s performance below.

Country: Israel (#ISR)
Act: Eden Alene
Song: “Set me free”
Semifinal: First (18/05/2021)
Position in Running Order: 12/16

The third eurodance number of the show, Eden is wearing a white jacket with geometrically shaped black stripes. She and her four dances engage in a zany dance choreography, as the same geometric line patterns flash across the back- and floordrops in white and turquoise. Israel make use of the catwalk and it’s built in holographic backdrop screen (we need a better name for this. How about “sidedrop”?)

For the first two minutes Eden appears confident and likable, grooving along with her dancers. At the end of the performances however, her jacket is ripped off, revealing a black negligée-looking garment. She hits her two “high notes” well, but the staging doesn’t make them stand out fully. It comes off as a bit strange.

It’s an energetic performance from the Israeli adolescent, but Israel have inadvertantly created a divide between the energetic first half and the strange second half. It gives them a bit of homework in time of the second rehearsals, but at this early a stage they can definitely turn things around in their favour.
