The Ericsson Globe in Stockholm will once again play host to Europe’s favourite show after just 15 years

SVT, the national broadcaster of Sweden and the organisation responsible for Eurovision 2016’s hosting has confirmed that the contest will be held in the Swedish capital Stockholm for the third time next May!

The Ericsson Globe will be the host venue of the contest for the second time after previously housing the competition in 2000, but this time will share responsibilities of hosting alongside the Hovet venue, where the press centre for over 1,500 journalists will be situated, and Annex where delegations will be based. Suggestions from the Swedish team responsible for the contest’s organisation also hints at the future involvement of the nearby Tele2 Arena which many predicted as the actual venue for the contest.

Martin Österdahl, executive producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, who was also responsible for the 2013 show in Malmö, this morning stated that “Stockholm has delivered a thorough offer which guarantees that the event once again is taken to the next level”.

Sweden’s victory in the 2015 edition of the contest in Vienna, Austria ensured that the country would host Eurovision for the sixth time. The semi-finals of next year’s contest are poised to take place on 10th and 12th May with the grand final to follow on 14th May 2016. So far, Turkey and Ukraine are set to return to the show and are confirmed alongside 17 other countries as of 8th July 2015.
