This week, UMK released the names of the artists competing in this year’s contest. The daily release of songs continues today. Today, we hear Benjamin’s song “Hoida Mut”.

Benjamin is one of the more established artists at UMK 2023. His career kicked off on social media in 2012 with his English language music taking off across the world. His single “Underdogs” reached the top of the Spanish charts in 2014.

He moved to sing in Finnish in 2018, finding himself reaching the top of the charts in Finland. As well as this, he released his first Finnish language studio Album in September 2020. More recently, his single “GAY” became a pop hit over the summer 2022 Pride season. This success also being replicated in the domestic charts. His song in UMK is important to his story and growing up. Benjamin sings of the most important moment in someone’s life, in breaking stereotypes and giving yourself up for someone else.

UMK has released their reasoning for selection by their board for each artist. For Benjamin they have said the following;

“Recently, Benjamin’s UMK song Hoida mut, which has been on a high rise, is in the competition with explosive energy, a current sound drawn from 80s pop, and a really catchy vibe. The production reminds me of Ava Max, The Weeknd and Dua Lipa’s barracks drive of recent years. The song has a hot and sexy feeling from start to finish and we are looking forward to how the charismatic and well-moved Benjamin will bring the song to life with a music video and a stage show.”

Yesterdy, the first song from Keira was released ready for the UMK final on the 25th of February. The names of the six other artists were released yesterday and their songs will come out one by one each weekday until 20/01.
