Utopost 11-5-2020 --- MICADO SPEAKS ON WLSC197 ENTRY: GOING DOWN MEMORY LANE? ---

Today the spokesperson for national broadcaster Micado spoke on who the next entry for Utopolis is going to be:

"We have indeed made a choice. Actually, this choice was made even before the results from Jambinai were in, because it was such an obvious idea that we would have gone for it either way. Of course, some people were against the idea, but those supporting it were very much in favour and very vocal about it."

"I can't tell you who we are going to send, but let's just say it's a song that has been underrated for its entire existence. It is right now that we feel the stars have properly aligned for a song like this. It features 3D-graphics, a dance beat, a fantastic array of melodies and just generally a very nice vibe. It's the generational hit song that never was!"

"Yes, it's a slightly older song we are going for. It's not ancient, but it does have a bit of wear and tear of you were to compare the style to what is current. However, we all agreed that this adds charm instead of taking away from it, so it wasn't seen as a problem. We've seen older songs from other countries and although it doesn't seem like a Utopolitan thing to do, we too can go for something old. Not something tried and trusted, but we can do old."

We at the Utopost are obviously buoyed by these words. Have they lost their mind or have they found a spark of genius? We'll keep you updated when we find out more.

Micado dropped a teaser for us!!

Guess it won't be Eiffel 65 - Blue then. No news on what the actual entry is going to be though. Speculation is rife, but it seems likely we're going to see a Jedward song. Final announcement is scheduled as well for tonight at 23:00 CET.

Utopost 11-5-2020 --- LIPSTICK REVEALED AS WLSC ENTRY --- NOT JEDWARD ---

After being teased by broadcaster Micado with a picture of the legendary twins Jedward it seemed clear that we knew where to look. It all made sense giving prior statements. It would be an older dance track etcetera. How wrong we were. It was never about Jedward, it was always about Lipstick!

Let's see our new heroes in action:

We are delighted, we have good hopes that this song turns out to be a true firecracker at WLSC 197. From what we have seen from other countries, Svobodnia will be hosting a big party and we're not going to be the ones singing out of tune this time around.

Utopost 31-5-2020 --- LIPSTICK DELIVERS AS MOISANTIA RUN RAMPANT ---

Moisantia took home the win last night in WLSC 197. The contest, held in Svobodnia, could be typified as a big party. Almost all songs were of the pop variety and even if they weren't the energy level was generally high. Moisantia took the win with a song that wasn't as high octane as some others, but its class would simply not be denied by the various jurors. The Utopolitian juror gave the 12 points to Baia Papaya for the second time in a row, but was also very much in support of Moisantia, granting it 5 points. The Juror had the following to say about the song: "I was drawn in by the first tones. I very relaxed arpeggiated muted synth that slowly gains support from other 80s-sounding synths while featuring vocals that demand attention. The song aptly mimics the style described as that of The Weeknd in the popular Alternatia fanfic. I think people kind of naturally pick up on that kind of thing."

Utopolis was in the mix with Lipstick, who did a solid job scoring 57 points, just one point short of replacement value. Literally an average performance then. Given the average taste of the jurors in WLSC it should be noted that for Utopolis to score a replacement is already quite a good result in general, so there was no real emotion to be seen on the faces of the Utopolitan delegates. We spoke to broadcaster Micado's Spokesperson: "I think it is commonly understood that we try to score 58 points every single time. That is not a law, but it's just a matter that we try to balance out 'fan service' with some more intellectual service. An entry that performs well allows us to indulge basically. But the science behind what entries do well is something we are still very much struggling with. Lipstick getting 57 points was a bit lower than expected, we had thought we could comfortably expect 70 points to trickle our way. It did not happen. Luckily none of this influences our decision on what song to send next. We expect it to do well and it's the most indulgent song we have to give."

At this point in the interview our journalist was nearing a heart attack. Were they just going to spill the beans right then and there? They wouldn't, but there's likely to be an update soon though. Seems as though Moisantia is accepting applications soon and there were very strong rumours that we would send our entry immediately.

UPDATE: --- SAD HEART CONFIRMED FOR WLSC198 ---

So we heard Moisantia opened their lines and we had just had the interview with Micado. At this point our journalist was nearing a heart attack (again), as the Spokesperson was still giving interviews. They wouldn't tell anyone at that point though, but within an hour clearance was given and the Spokesperson was still on the premise. We ganged up on her and got the words we sought: "Next song up is Sivan Talmor's Sad Heart, hand picked by the Uto. We all know that this has basically been our anthem this year so yeah, it had to happen at some point right? I guess with us trying to get above replacement to make room in our plans to send this song we lost track of what is really important: great music videos."

Utopost 15-6-2020 ---WLSC198: TASTELESS PEOPLE HAVE TASTE ---


With Talmor and Droog sitting snugly at nr 2 and 3 on the Utopolitan music charts behind the ever-present UUCS outfit Cy8er tensions were running high right before WLSC198. Would Talmor bring Utopolis some much deserved success, would Droog take the contest to Pyreica? Both outcomes would have gained a lot of support from the Utopolitan public and there is no reason why both songs couldn't succeed. Things are never that simple though, as the countries all have their different taste and their different approach to voting.

We got half of what we wanted. Talmor finished 16th with 44 points, ultimately a bit of a disappointment, but it's a respectable score. Droog however totally came through, taking the top spot in an intense finish where Utopolis was the last to vote. As the Utopolitan Juror was publicly misbehaving and taunting the Tanoirans, the Pyreican delegates were getting visibly sick of all the stress involved. When the final points were shown people fainted and vomited as a roar raised from the public in agreement with that which Utopolis had just wrought. It was marvelous.

Now, there is no shame in saying what is going to happen next. Utopolis will send a song the Uto handpicked once more. As he interfered with the choice last time, sending a song he really liked, he's going to keep with that process. Word is now he's going to send a song he really hates. What idiocy has our great leader conjured up now? The reveal will be done as soon as possible. Our advice as always: fasten a stick-like object between your head and your F5 button as you bop your head to Cy8er. This way you won't miss a thing. We'll be back shortly.

Utopost 28-6-20 --- ALL HAIL EMMA, QUEEN OF THE PYREICAN MOUNTAINS ---

Dear readers, we are sure you've all heard the news. Most of you even watched. You were with us as we witnessed a wonder take place. Our dear Dictator totally turned the script on its head and came up with Emma Heesters. Whether it was out of patriotism or out of love, we were united in our wish to see her succeed. As the votes came in tonight it seemed like Solentoya was going to run away with victory (again), but in the second half of voting Utopolis suddenly took the lead. The final vote was ÜÜCS, score tied, tension at maximum. There will always be some bad blood because of our shared past, but our brothers were not interested in throwing blunt daggers this night. Three points appeared for Utopolis, Solentoya remained blank. Utopolis won, Emma went crazy and gave her victorious performance once more.
