She's back! Our gorgeous Colombian-American songstress, Kali Uchis, returns to WorldVision with a freshly released tune. I Wish you Roses is an ode to past love (be it a partner or friend) and finding the ability to release them with no bitterness in your heart. Kali is healing up here! Wish them roses.

The super vibrant and stunningly beautiful music video is directed by Cho Gi-Seok. Oh my, isn't it a treat? I'm really lucky this thing dropped on deadline day as it made my choice very easy. I just had to share this lovely experience with you! I hope you enjoy it.

Ooh, never thought I would be without you
I wish you love, I wish you well
I wish you roses while you can still smell 'em
With pretty flowers can come the bee sting (Ooh, never thought I would be without you)
But I wish you love, I wish you well
I wish you roses while you can still smell 'em (Ooh)

I was a rose in a garden of weeds
My petals are soft and silky as my sheets
So, do not be afraid to get pricked by the thorns
While I'm here, I'm someone to honor
When I'm gone, I'm someone to mourn
But if you and my heart should someday drift apart
I'll make sure to give these blessings because they're all I've got
My love's deep as the ocean, don't you drown on me
Just know, any love I gave you's forever yours to keep

Ooh, I wish you roses and roses and roses and roses and roses
I wish you roses, yeah, roses, roses
Ooh, I wish you roses and roses and roses and roses and roses
I wish you roses, yeah, roses, roses

Ooh, never thought I would be without you
I wish you love, I wish you well
I wish you roses while you can still smell 'em
With pretty flowers can come the bee sting (Ooh, never thought I would be without you)
But I wish you love, I wish you well
I wish you roses while you can still smell 'em (Ooh)

Ooh, I wish you roses and roses and roses and roses and roses (I wish you roses)
I wish you roses (I wish you roses), yeah, roses, roses
Ooh, I wish you roses and roses and roses and roses and roses
I wish you roses, yeah, roses, roses

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh
You're gonna want me back
You're gonna want me bad
You're gonna-
You know we can't do that
You know we can't do that
You know we-

Here's an absolute classic from the golden era of doo-wop. Composed by Carole King with words by Gerry Goffin, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow was a huge hit for The Shirelles way back in 1960. They made history with this song as the first ever all black girl group to top the American Billboard chart, paving the way for many artists that followed on in the years to come inspired by their sweet, charming sound.

tumblr_o876ycKS5j1rchkzlo1_250.gif

Tonight, you're mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight, the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow?

Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure?
Can I believe the magic of your sighs?
Will you still love me tomorrow?

Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night (when the night)
Meets the mor- (meets the morning sun)

I'd like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now, and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow?

So tell me now, and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow?
Will you still love me tomorrow?
Will you still love me...

The mysterious French synthwave composer Carpenter Brut returns to WorldVision. This time he's joined by former The Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist, Greg Puciato. The hard hitting Imaginary Fire is taken from Brut's 2022 release, Leather Terror. Hopefully he has some better luck this time at the contest.

When you're on your own
You default to guilty
It's fine, you're wasting your own time
But don't drag me in just to push me away
We can make this simple
But it's really up to you

It takes resolve to see
That you really don't get nothing for free

Oh, it takes a lot to love
The way that you feel when you're all alone
But we create the stars above
When we go, ooh-oh
And I really want us both to try
To leave the imaginary fire behind

Oh, behind
Yeah

If you want to resume your position with me
I won't, I'm in another place
And you'll tell yourself that I'm pulling away
We can make this simple
But it's really up to you

I know it's hard to feel
But you really don't get nothing for free

Oh, it takes a lot to love
The way that you feel when you're all alone
But we create the stars above
When we go, ooh-oh
And I really want us both to try
To leave the imaginary fire behind

Oh, behind

And now the viciousness
Colour emotionless
Faith is hard for us to keep
If we're on our own
In the great unknown
And now the viciousness
Colour emotionless
Faith is hard for us to keep
If we're on our own
In the great unknown, oh

Oh, it takes a lot to love
The way that you feel when you're all alone
But we create the stars above
When we go, ooh-oh
And I really want us both to try
To leave the imaginary fire behind

Yeah, behind
Behind
Yeah, be mine

Tonedeff is American MC and producer from Virginia known for his extremely fast rapping. Use Me is a track taken from the 2016 album, Polymer. It has a rather dark, uncomfortable music video that perfectly drives home the message of the song which deals with the subject of being used, set to a synth-heavy backing track that has some elements of trap. This one has been on my shortlist for a long while to share with you. If you've got a good memory, you might recall some years back I gave you Tonedeff's song Competitive Nature in one of our hip hop spin-offs. I hope you enjoy this latest offering from him.

Use me, Use me
Drag me along, and use me up
Use me, Use me
Drag me along, and use me up

I’m your puppet, no strings attached
Complete any task you could dream to ask
I could pretend that I need you back
So that at opposite ends, we’re an even match/
Damn, I didn’t mean to snap
I will cooperate, tell me your three commands/
The way I coddle you, quell all your greed, demands/
You’d think I’d conjured a spell from a genie’s lamp
Hey somebody gotta be the master/
On a team there’s captains,on the seas - commanders
Honestly I’m glad with how you lead the path
So, I’m willing to sacrifice all it seems you’re after/
I’m kinda fond of the leaching act with all the schemes & plans
My self-esteem is damaged
And a hunter never questions an easy catch -
It didn’t take a documentary to teach me that/
Now, I’m seeing the pattern, it’s easy to add up
I’m never the one to leave when it’s bad or to keep it from happening
Inevitably the reason you pass with sneaky tactics
Is some karmic revenge from my seedy past - Uh!
I can’t help it - I’m free but I’m trapped - CHOOSE
A black pelican whose wings have been snapped - MOVE
And you’re selling pics to people to peep me intact
Abuse me. Use me

Use me, Use me
Drag me along, and use me up
Use me, Use me
Drag me along, and use me up

Cause everybody loves you the day you make em a millionaire
Till someone else can make em a billionaire
Till someone else can make em trillionaire
Let's see you take away the things they want
Will they still be there?

So...did you get everything your heart desired?
And is there anything you want revised?
Cause I’ll go editing the fabric of my being
‘Til the thread of me is casually tossed aside
See I’m tailor-made to cater to your whims
For an awesome price, see the cost is pride
If you can live with and admit it’s been a grift/
Stickin' around for the gifts like a mobster’s wife/
Right, I don’t wanna bring your flaws to the light
Cause I’m partly responsible like
If I ever stumbled in the wake of all your lies
I know without a doubt it wouldn't even stop your stride/
I wish I was somebody more like you
With no conscious, drive and a darker side
And still appear half-sane /
But it’s too late to be launching a fucking smear campaign when the marker’s dry
I’m feeling a bit lost inside
Though I thought I was holding my moral compass right side up
But my mind’s kinda stuck
Deciding if I should draw the line at the crossing sign/
So, which way is wrong? Is it right? CHOOSE
Switch daily as long as you like. MOVE
Hit play on this song, you can call me tonight
Abuse me. Use Me

Use me, Use me
Drag me along, and use me up
Use me, Use
Drag me along, and use me up

Lyra Pramuk is an American experimental artist that is today based in Germany. She describes her music as futuristic folk. The song I chose to share with you is called New Moon. It's the bewitching album closer from Lyra's debut release, Fountain, a record created entirely from just the sounds of her voice through processing and layering.

When I experience this song I feel like I'm being allowed to share a cathartic release with Lyra. Everything just washes over you and it's beautiful. I'm so happy I discovered her music. If just one other person here gets something from it too, I'll be delighted.

Pink Mexico are a garage rock band from Queens, New York, led by Robert Preston Collum. The deliciously grungy, reverb-drenched track Dirty & Stupid is taken from their 2019 album, DUMP. You may remember I shared this song in a garage rock NF a few years ago. Hope you dig it!

I'm dirty
I'm stinking
I'm a faucet and I'm leaking to death
If you need me
I'll be wasted
Counting crosses
Questioning my health

How did I get home?
Why am I all wet?
Is this even me?
I fucking forget
Melting through my skull
Hungover in this room
Wishing I had...

I'm dirty

I'm a faucet and I'm leaking to death
If you need me

The vibrant Texan artist known as Dorian Electra makes their WorldVision debut. The moment I heard the latest single, the very naughty, Sodom & Gomorrah, I knew it was time to finally share their music here. For me it's such an addictive bop. I can't stop listening to it. Hope you have some fun with it too and then afterwards we'll need to repent for our sins together xLO

La, la-la
La, la-la la-la-la

Tell me that ancient story, two cities got super horny
And then without a warning God made it all fire and stormy
I wanna know what they did to make him bring his wrath
Yeah, I wanna know what they did, can you show me with that ass?
Let's get freaky like they did in

Sodom, Gomorrah
Drop it down to the floor-uh
Beg for more-uh
Let's get nasty like they did in
Sodom, Gomorrah
Enter through the back door-uh
'Til we're sore-uh
Let's get freaky like they did in

Let's get freaky like they did in

Deuteronomy
Give my ass a lobotomy
That's sodomy
Digging deep, archeology
My theology
I like to know that he's watching me
Fulfill me up like a prophecy
Put the fear of God in me

Sodom, Gomorrah
Drop it down to the floor-uh
Beg for more-uh
Let's get nasty like they did in
Sodom, Gomorrah
Enter through the back door-uh
'Til we're sore-uh
Let's get freaky like they did in

Let's get freaky like they did in
Sodom and Gomorrah
Let's get freaky like they did in

Get freaky
Get freaky
Let's get freaky like they did in
Yeah, let's get freaky like they did in
Let's get freaky like they did in
Let's get freaky like they did in
Let's get freaky like they did in
Let's get freaky like they did in

Sodom and Gomorrah
Tell me that ancient story, two cities got super horny, yeah
And then without a warning God made it all fire and stormy

Sodom, Gomorrah (Gomorrah)
Drop it down to the floor-uh (the floor-uh)
Beg for more-uh (for more-uh)
Let's get nasty like they did in

Sodom, Gomorrah (Gomorrah)
Enter through the back door-uh (back door-uh)
'Til we're sore-uh (we're sore-uh)
Let's get freaky like they did in

Other Lives are a band from Stillwater, Oklahoma. They've been going since 2004. I used to listen to their record Tamer Animals back in the day. I hadn't thought of them in a long while until they appeared in my youtube recommended videos thingy on deadline night. Heard their song Beat Primal and was like "Oooo". Shimmering and mysterious. I liked it. Not usually the kind of thing I'd send (it immediately made me think more of Flo's lovely Icelandic entries) but I thought it would keep the variety going with my entries. I hope some of you enjoy it!

This edition we're sharing with you the dark and haunting, Love Theme, a piece taken from the emotional fourth instalment of Hideo Kojima's legendary Metal Gear Solid series. The piece was composed by Nobuko Toda with Kojima writing the lyrics himself, enlisting the help of New York vocalist Jackie Presti to sing them. I hope you enjoy it.

Closing my eyes to the sound of gunfire

Uttering a howl

In a flash I am switched into despair

Everything for the one who lives inside a nightmare

Missing you from the bottom of my heart

Wishing for the world that ran out of tears

My heart is already dead

The hope

Missing you so much it hurts

The moment I heard this song a year ago for the first time, I knew I'd be sending it as a PQ if ever I was lucky enough to get one again. It's the long awaited comeback single from one of my all time favourite garage rock bands, Hunx & His Punx.

On bass guitar is the legendary Shannon Shaw from Shannon & The Clams. You may remember I sent her solo with the song Golden Frames a few years back when she triumphed in the Garage Rock NF I held. Then there's the charming Erin Emslie of Secret Stare on drums. Last but not least, the lead man himself, Hunx, who has also released music under his real name Seth Bogart.

White Lipstick is an ode to everyone who watched music videos as a teen, dreaming of becoming their idols. I don't know about that to be honest, as at thirty.. something or other I'm still dreaming one day of becoming a mashup of Shannon Shaw, Amanda Lear and Father John Misty. Please god, let me be so fabulous.

This surfy, garage rock treat is probably the most addicted I've been to a song in a long while. I find it so ridiculously infectious and the pacing is tremendous. Those drums going into the chorus get me every time. I just love how the song builds and builds before delivering that key change, and oh my, Shannon just goes wild on the track. I love her so much and Hunx's new sultry, deep vocals. I hope you have fun with Hunx & His Punx!

(White lipstick
White lipstick)

I still remember
I was so young
When I first saw her
Singing to everyone
Her lipstick took me by surprise
Shining in the night
Reflecting in her eyes
White, white lipstick
Wild, wild eyes

(White lipstick
White lipstick)

When I put it on
I wish that I
Was just like her
But I'm not (No I'm not)
I won't stop trying
To be like all those girls
That I first saw
With white lipstick on

White, white lipstick
Wild, wild eyes
White, white lipstick
Wild, wild eyes

White, white lipstick
Wild, wild еyes
White, white lipstick
Wild, wild еyes
White, white lipstick
Wild, wild eyes
White, white lipstick
Wild, wild eyes

We're back after our little break, and so is The White Buffalo. Last seen at WV120, the Californian troubadour returns with a track taken from his latest album, Year of the Dark Horse. Winter Act 2 is a heartfelt and honest piece of Americana. I've been waiting for the right moment to share it with you. The lyrics are hitting me hard right now so it felt time. I hope you enjoy it.

giphy.gif

With winter comes the change
And she's always right on time
The trouble's all the same
How it echoes in my mind
Repeating the words of doubt and shame and fear
Hoping I have enough to make it through the year

It's like a stick-up in my brain
Punch drunk and paralyzed
Maybe I need the pain
There's some truth inside these lies
Reaching, but I can't hold the cold hands of time
Too many curious questions that I'll never find

Maybe I don't care, maybe I can't care no more
Maybe I don't feel, maybe I can't feel no more
Oh mother hold me, squeeze me tight
Say you love me, tell me it will be all right

Mom is much too far away
I have to hold myself this time
Well this bleak and slow decay
It's my sentence and my crime

Get your shit together, and leave the cold behind
You ain't living when you're staring at the finish line
Well maybe I don't care, maybe I can't care no more

Attention WorldVision! It's time for a SMASH HIT by the one and only Debbie Gibson. The song Electric Youth is taken from Debbie's 1989 album of the same name. I fell in love with this 7th Heaven Remix of the song which I feel totally turns it into something that wouldn't feel out of place competing in a 00s Melodifestivalen final. Such tasty, catchy pop. I hope you enjoy it!

giphy.gif

Oh-woah

Zappin' it to you, the pressure's everywhere
Goin' right through you
The fever's in the air, oh yeah, it's there
Don't underestimate the power of a lifetime ahead

Electric youth, feel the power, you see the energy
Comin' up, coming on strong
The future only belongs to the future itself
And the future is electric youth
It's true, you can't fight it, live by it, the next generation
It's electric

We've got the most time to make the world go 'round
Oh, can you spare a dime?
Place your bet on our sound, come back to town
Don't lose sight of potential mastermind
Remember when you were young

Electric youth, feel the power, you see the energy
Comin' up, coming on strong
The future only belongs in the hands of itself
And the future is electric youth
It's true, you can't fight it, live by it, the next generation
It's electric

We do what comes naturally (naturally)
You see now, wait for the possibility
Don't you see a strong resemblance to yourself? (oh)
Don't you think what we say is important?
Whatever it may be, the fun is gonna start with me
I'm bringing it back

Electric youth, feel the power, you see the energy
Comin' up, coming on strong
The future only belongs to the future itself
And the future is electric youth
It's true, you can't fight it, live by it, the next generation
It's electrifyin'

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, woah, woah
Woah-oh-oh-oh

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, woah, woah
Take it, Fred!

Ooh, woah-oh-woah
Hoo!

Electric youth, feel the power, you see the energy
Comin' up, coming on strong
The future only belongs in the hands of itself
And the future is electric youth
It's true, you can't fight it, live by it, the next generation
It's electric, it's electric, it's electric

Electric youth, feel the power, you see the energy
Comin' up, coming on strong
The future only belongs to the future itself
And the future is electric youth
It's true, you can't fight it, live by it, the next generation

Inflation, flirtation, relaxation, elation
Generation of an electric youth

Another fun fact: she made her Broadway debut in 1988 for Les Miserables; she played Fantine, my favorite character--you know, I love the underdog because they never win...kinda like me, I'm just a big loser...

Harp is the project of former Midlake singer, Tim Smith. Early next month he'll release the first Harp album called 'Albion' with his wife, Kathi Zung. Hearing the moody single Throne of Amber I found myself instantly falling in love with the lush medieval gothic goodness of it all. The dreamy chorus inspired by William Blake in particular I just can't get enough of. I hope you enjoy the song.

pDjEEuP.png

In the early hours of dawn
Through the garden where the flowers hung
Where the favoured ones are waited on
And the weaker ones are filled with song
Well I went mad
I was mad

Surely there's another way
You know I've searched forever
Now the years are only fleeing
Ah

Bring me an axe
And bring me spade
Bring me a winding sheet for my grave
Let thy winds
And the tempest beat
And I lie down as cold as clay

Where's the warm and piercing sun
You know I can't remember
Long before the violent sea
Surrounded me in misery
I heard their voices something like wings

Bring me an axe
And bring me spade
Bring me a winding sheet for my grave
Let thy winds
And the tempest beat
And I lie down as cold as clay

Bring me an axe
And bring me spade
Bring me a winding sheet for my grave
Let thy winds
And the tempest beat
And I lie down as cold as clay

Melody-Gardot-CREDIT-Franco-Tettamanti-web-optimised-1000.jpg

The New Jersey born jazz singer Melody Gardot makes her too long awaited WorldVision debut. Her music was a big part of my teens when I was crazy in love with musicians and vocalists such as Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Nina Simone and the like. Melody was by and large my favourite contemporary jazz artist. I was really obsessed with how she used her voice as an instrument. The intimacy of her music. She was and still is a big influence to how I perceive and feel music today.

This lady's story is one of triumph and perseverance. In 2003, Melody suffered a life altering collision with a car whilst riding her bike which left her confined to a hospital bed for a year. The accident triggered an oversensitiveness to both light and sound. Music therapy was Melody's road to recovery. From her bed she wrote songs that she'd eventually release independently as her first EP, Some Lessons: The Bedroom Sessions, immediately establishing that soft, silky style chosen out of necessity to ease the pain, but a sound that would become Melody's life long strength.

The song I'm sharing with you this edition of WorldVision is the gorgeous If Ever I Recall Your Face, taken from Melody's 2015 record, Currency of Man. I would say it's the most grandiose piece in her repertoire, sounding as if it's been pulled straight out of a scene from some moody 1950s noir film as the protagonist walks down an empty street at night in the rain, his hands in the pockets of his trench coat. I really hope you enjoy it.

Forget all that's said and done
When your heart's a lonely one
And see my dear that heaven is a place
Whenever I recall your face

Life can be so lucky now
Some may win and others don't know how
But I could drop my losing hand with grace
Whenever I recall your face

While leaving town, you leave behind
The ones you love for who you find
But love, no other arms could take your place
Whenever I recall your face

In the oceans of your eyes
Lies a look I recognize
A glance that leaves me dancing polonaise
Whenever I recall your
If ever I recall your face

This edition of WorldVision we're sharing with you a very special artist. The late, great Jimmy Scott, sometimes referred to as Little Jimmy Scott. He had a career in jazz that spanned decades and was singing all the way up until his death in 2014 at 88 years old. Jimmy was born with a rare genetic disorder called Kallmann syndrome which prevents the onset of puberty. As a result of this, he was blessed with a highly unusual, hauntingly androgynous singing voice.

The track I'm sharing with you here is called Sycamore Trees. Composed by Angelo Badalamenti and with lyrics by David Lynch (you can maybe see where this is going), yes, Sycamore Trees was a song written especially for Jimmy to sing on the climatic final season 2 episode of the tv show, Twin Peaks. It's a surreal, spine-chilling moment that hasn't left me in all these years since I first experienced Jimmy's ghostly presence howling this song from the red room. I find it paralysing. It's so ominous, so hopeless but absolutely stunningly beautiful. I don't think there's another singer who could have carried the song in the way Jimmy did. He really was one of the all time greats who had a very special gift, and a big heart. I hope you enjoy the song.

I got idea man
You take me for a walk
Under the sycamore trees
The dark trees that blow, baby
In the dark trees that blow

And I'll see you
And you'll see me
And I'll see you in the branches that blow
In the breeze
I'll see you in the trees
I'll see you in the trees
Under the sycamore trees

And I'll see you
And you'll see me
And I'll see you in the branches that blow
In the breeze
I'll see you in the trees
I'll see you in the trees
Under the sycamore trees

Dessa is back at WorldVision! It's been almost one hundred editions since I shared with you her music here. I don't know where that time goes. Dessa's solo work quite differs from her stuff with the hip hop collective she's part of, the Minneapolis, Minnesota based Doomtree. This dreamy pop number called Call Off Your Ghost has always been my favourite Dessa song. I love the percussion and layers it has, and then those lyrics. The harmonies urhhh can't get enough! This lady brings me so much happiness. Hope you enjoy the song.

Last night, best friend, big wedding
And I knew you'd be there too
Look at us, all grown up
Collared shirts and high heel shoes
You crossed the room, just the decent thing to do

Make sure we've all been introduced
You brought your new friend
I brought mine, shake hands
Pay courtesy, it's due
But it takes it's toll
And it takes it's hold

We've lived too long, too close
So call off your ghost

Now you're asking, "Can't we just be friends?"
But this pain in my chest still rings
And its better to just pretend
That I can't see you waiting
Can't hear you call my name and
And I know how much you hate it

But babe, I've got to walk away
You once said if we were careful
That we could do this all our lives
Although one of us got clumsy
And both of us got wise
And now we're not so young, see
Our wishing wells gone dry

We've been living too long, too close
And I'm ready to let you go
I'm ready (call off your ghost)
So call off your ghost

I think she lives around here
I see her almost daily
All I can do to stop myself from saying something crazy
I don't think badly of her
I hope she makes you happy
It's just a lot to ask to watch your future walking past me
I know that jealousy's a perfect waste of time
But left to my devices
I've spent far too long wasting mine
I've spent far too long wasting mine

We've been living too long, too close
And I'm ready to let you go
I'm ready (call off your ghost)
So call off your ghost

We've been living too long, too close
And I'm ready to let you go
I'm ready (call off your ghost)
So call off your ghost
