Scania, sometimes called the breadbasket of Sweden, is the country's southernmost region. It only comprises 2.5 % of Sweden's total area while still holding approximately 13.3% of Sweden's population. The majority of Scania's 1.4 million inhabitants resides in the western part, mainly in and around its largest cities of Malmö, Helsingborg and Lund.

Referred to as Skåne in its mothertongue, Scania shares many similar features to nearby Denmark and Northern Germany with a mix of high-tech industry and heavily fertile agricultural land producing grains, rapeseed, apples, sugar beets, poppies and potatoes.

Since the start of the new millennium, Scania's ties to the rest of Europe were strengthened even more thanks to the construction of the Øresund Bridge. The combined railway and highway bridge is a unique engineering marvel spanning 8 kilometers over the Øresund strait from Malmö in the east to the artificial island of Peberholm, where the bridge continues down further west into the 4 kilometre long Drogden Tunnel to Amager, just outside of Copenhagen.

WV 175: Peps Persson - Falsk Matematik

The very first song representing Scania in WorldVision is sung by the legendary father of both blues and reggae in Swedish and Scanian music, none other than the OG hillbilly musician himself, Peps Persson.

Emerging during the Swedish counter culture scene of the 1970s, Peps distinguished himself from other left-leaning Swedish artists of the time where he presented a much more cheerful sound, whereas his equivalents of the time had a much more serious approach. Singing in a thick Scanian accent, with lyrics that people on either side of the political spectrum could agree with (even if he usually mocked both the middle and upper class), Peps gained a large and diverse following during his 50 year long career.

Especially in his later years, the number of fans grew even larger when several of Peps' hits were less political. Still, Peps managed to remain true to his original style and values in large and became a cult hero to both academics in the city and blue collar workers on the countryside.

WV 177: Peter von Poehl - The Story of the Impossible

Peter von Poehl is a singer-songwriter, composer and music producer born in Malmö, Scania's most populous city, in 1972. After collaborating with several French rock bands in the early 2000s, von Poehl's breakthrough to a broader audience came with his first solo album in 2006.

Following that, Peter von Poehl has released several albums with his unique voice and sincere pop arrangements at its core. However, his original soundtracks featured in both Swedish and French movies have probably been the driving force behind von Poehl's continuing success in the music industry the last couple of years. He has also experimented with original compositions for theater and dance performances.

WV 178: Emil Jensen & Edda Magnason - Inte vackrast i världen

The quirky troubadour Emil Jensen and singer-turned-actress Edda Magnason, that represent Scania in WorldVision 178, is a duo that at first glance might seem like an odd one. However, before Magnason's rise to fame as an actress, she was a part of Emil Jensen's backing band on both studio albums and live tours for several years. In this duet, they praise the people who make the world a better place in many different ways, despite the fact that these people not always are that perfect themselves either, or that they sometimes are even seen as strange or crazy by others. Emil and Edda sing about these people as, roughly translated to, "You are not the most beautiful in the world, the world is the most beautiful in you."

Emil Jensen is an artist, poet, singer-songwriter and author born in 1974 in Hjärup, located just south of Lund. Mostly known for his playful lyrical style, mixing comedy with politics and other serious matters, Jensen has attracted a small, yet dedicated following during the last 20 years. Jensen was also the Swedish poetry slam champion in both 2003 and 2004 and has won several awards for his distinctive lyrical style in the 2010s.

Edda Magnason is a singer and actress, born in Lövestad in 1984, outside of Ystad in the scenic Österlen Region of South Eastern Skåne. She is mostly known for her portrayal of the iconic Swedish Jazz singer Monica Zetterlund (who participated for Sweden in Eurovision Song Contest 1963) in the 2013 biopic ‘Monica Z’. Magnason has released several solo albums both prior and after her acting career took off and has also collaborated with many other artists except Emil Jensen, like Familjen and Mikael Wiehe.

WV 187: Tyskarna från Lund - Global Fussball OK

Tyskarna från Lund is an electropop group known for both being a parody and a tribute to the (German) synthpop scene of the 1970s and 80s, combining a keen sense of humor with genuine musical talent. Formed in Lund, the band's name basically translates to "The Germans from Lund" and started as a project consisting of members from the comedy group Varanteatern.

Their music is characterized by catchy, synthesizer-driven melodies and humorous lyrics, often sung in a mix of Swedish, German, and English, sometimes with exaggerated German accents. Tyskarna från Lund gained popularity with their hit songs like "Global Fussball OK", "Achtung X-mas" and "Kungen och Silvia".

The music video of "Global Fussball OK" features cameos of Lund's greatest hip hop star, Timbuktu and the legendary Malmö-born goalkeeper Ronnie Hellström, who played for the German club Kaiserslautern between 1974 and 1984 and was considered as one of the world's best keepers of his time.
