We need to send a winning entry next year just to wipe that smug smile off Sweden's face... :p

This is our year now. We have been overtaken, but we shall RISE again and take back our rightful place at the front of Eurovision; taking the plaudits, applause and success. For too long have "foreign" nations been attacking our efforts and ridiculing our wonderful and unique entries. The Axis of Evil (Spain, Montenegro and Finland) has ignored our entries for the LAST TIME. No longer will we tolerate the efforts of the bloc voting (look at how many countries united this year to give us 0 points!!) to stop our successes. No, the time has come for REVENGE!!! No more "top 20 finish would be wonderful" or "wow, we DIDN'T come last!". It's time to go for the victory which will propel the UK back to Eurovision success and knock Sweden off the pedestal which is rightfully ours. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

P.S. If you cannot tell the waves of sarcasm in the above paragraph, God help you: You've spent WAAAY too much time on this forum...

Would be more interesting to divide those numbers with number of final appearances. Ukraine should be no. 1, no?

Edit: on second thought, that doesn't say much either.

That would be interesting although again wouldn't work very well because of voting systems. You would have to weight it and calculate an average from there. You would probably have to exclude pre-1975 eurovision years.

What is this exactly?

I think this is probably points accumulated in the Eurovision final. In which case it seems unfair to include Andorra as they didn't get to the final and so couldn't obviously score any points.

I'm going to assume you didn't divide this years points by 2, which you should've in my opinion.

The new voting system certainly gives some countries a huge advantage!

Exactly. I read a '' top points list by entry '' and Ukraine and Australia was first. It doesn't make sense to say that Bulgaria which finished 4th this year got more points than any winning entry ever (excluding Loreen, Rybak and Zelmerlöv)

JamieBrown, the points of :yu: & ::cs have been splited to the countries, according to which one represented the region each year.
The points in other countries are different, because I changed the 3-2-1 points before 1974, to the 12-10-8 system.

Plus the +20 or so countries which have given points since 2004, effectively doubling the maximum points available. Plus different voting systems, plus differenting number of contestants in each final. This list is void on so many levels.

Sweden well deserves to become the no. 1 after their recent efforts, congrats :) I have no doubt that they will get that 7th win soon too lol.

Is there a ranking based on what percentage of the maximum number of points countries received and which is averaged by year?

For example, this year the maximum number of points a country could receive was 24 x 41 = 984. Ukraine received 534 points and therefore 54.27% of the maximum number of points. To get the final score for Ukraine, the percentage has to be calculated for all years and then averaged. This compensates for the different number of countries each year and it can also compensate for different voting systems but I think comparisons with the years before 1975 are generally difficult.

I only have numbers for the winners.

The Top 5 since 1975:
1976 :uk: 80.39%
1982 :de: 78.92%
1997 :uk: 78.82%
2009  78.66%
1994 :ie: 78.47%

The Bottom 5 since 1975:
2016 :ua: 54.27%
2008 :ru: 53.97%
2010 :de: 53.95%
2005 :gr: 50.44%
2011 :az: 43.85%

winners with more than 80% since 1975: 1 (since 2004: 0)
between 70% and 80%: 10 (3)
between 60% and 70%: 14 (4)
between 50% and 60%: 16 (5)
below 50%: 1 (1)

highest percentage overall: 1973 :lu: 80.63%
lowest percentage overall: 1969 :es::fr::nl::uk: 12.00% (voted for by 18 out of 150 jurors respectively)
