Winter has come to the town of Trecegard, but in a very shy manner. No snow has fallen yet and only the dim sky and bare trees betray time of of the year. Trecegard is a small town of a few thousand people, but looks more like an oversized village. From a bird's view it's a long and wide network of dirt roads and small one or two floor wooden houses. The town doesn't have a specified center, but several separate markets instead, each with a tavern nearby. This modest locality is a community of woodcutters and hunters placed in the midst of a thick woodland. They trade wood and furs via the only solid road in the area, that goes south to north, right through the middle of the town. The closest major settlement is the city of Kamień, 50 km north of here, which due to holding the headquarters of Rumian NSC broadcaster, is often regarded as the official capital of Rumia.

It's a seemingly quiet afternoon. The streets lie deserted, but with much of the folk gathered inside taverns. Largest of them, a tavern and inn "The Fluffy Pony", is guesting a couple of foreign visitors from distant parts of Natia.

Ok, i've wanted to start this game for a long time. For those who are not familiar with the concept of role play: think of a collectively written story with each of you controlling a single protagonist of your choice and me, as the host of this game, controlling all the lesser characters and the environment. The idea is that each player creates a character originating from his NSC country, who comes to Rumia for some reasons (up to your imagination). Since i am the host, it is only logical the story takes place in my country. In future, i hope somebody wishes to replace me and we'll move on to another country.

What characters i would like you to make? Interesting, but believable (avoid the Mary Sue effect). And most of all: make him/her representative of your NSC nation's personality :D

There is no set deadline to join, but the sooner, the better.

I love forum RPing. Used to do it a lot on several different forums back in the day. I'd love to join, but would like to know (before I do) what you expect from each of our posts in terms of word count, content and so on? Being very busy in real life, as well as with everything else on the forum, if each post needs to be at least several hundred words, then I will have to decline I think.

I'm well aware not everyone is familiar with this kind of games and that not everyone's a master at English (neither am i - i can communicate, but i would never write a book), so i will demand little in terms of content. There is no set minimum or maximum of word count, although one-liners aren't cool. But if you don't have enough time, you can post less frequently, there's no stress on regularity. You'll naturally become more of a sidekick than a main character, but it is absolutely fine. So don't feel like you're making any sort of commitment by joining, you'll just post whenever you can afford it and feel like it.

Here is my character:

Name: Brynja
Country: Trollheimr
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Background:
She was born in Ásgarðrfjöll, the capital of Trollheimr. As her father is unknown and her mother died when she was only a few years old, Brynja was sold into slavery at a very early age to a wealthy foreign merchant temporarily doing business in Trollheimr, who had a taste for blood and torture. Her early childhood was spent mostly on a ship, going from port to port in far distant lands, while being treated like a workhorse. As luck would have it, her master (the merchant) returned to Trollheimr some years later when she was around seven years old. As the ship sailed into Miðgarðavík, her overseer was suddenly needed on deck and Brynja knew this was her only chance to escape. She managed to slip away while the ship made berth and quickly made her way through the city, knowing she would have to keep running since her escape would no doubt be discovered before long. She headed south for as long as her legs could carry her and didn't stop until she reached the village of Utanmýra, near the Surðurmýr border - the great marshlands of southern Trollheimr. A kind, elderly couple took her in and she stayed with them for a few years, when both of them sadly passed away within a few months of each other and so she was alone in the world once again. She headed northwest, into the snowy, mountainous wilds of Norðurmark after the landlord kicked her out when she no longer could pay the rent and so she has been surviving in the wilderness since age ten. After a brief visit to a tavern in Huldra when she was fifteen years old, in exchange for bread and mead one cold winter's night when food was scarce, she soon found herself pregnant. Her wee daughter, whom she named Ronja, was born and raised in the wilderness and while they both lived a very harsh life, it was a fairly happy one until one fateful night a few months ago when they had made camp on the outskirts of Vittra, nearer to the coast. Suddenly she was ambushed by nine foreign men and held at gunpoint. Brynja tried to break free and rescue her daughter, but to no avail. She felt a heavy blow to her head, blacked out and when she later came to, her daughter along with the perpetrators were gone. Convinced she had seen their style of weaponry and clothing somewhere before, on the various voyages she had been on as a child, she has since been searching the four corners of Natia for her daughter.
Physical appearance:
Slightly taller than the average female with pale skin and a head full of wild auburn curls down her back. She will most often be found clad in leathers, furs and cloaks - anything that will cover her up, as well as keep the harsh cold, northern winds at bay. The battle axe and assorted knives she carries were taken from the corpse of a man slain by a bear, that she stumbled upon near the entrance to a cave. Her back is covered with scars from being lashed frequently as a child, and her legs are covered with burn scars, from when her master tried to set her on fire for sport.
Character:
Brynja cares for only one thing in this world, her daughter Ronja. Nothing else matters and she will do whatever it takes to provide for her, even it means breaking the law or walking through hellfire and brimstone. She has always been socially awkward, a common trait among the people of Trollheimr, but all her years as a recluse has made her even more so. She kills only for food and always makes use of the whole animal, whether it be fur for clothing or bedding, or meat for eating. She is most content sitting by the campfire, making up stories or songs with her daughter.
Strong sides:
+ Physically quite strong and can wield heavy weaponry.
+ Has no problem surviving in harsh climates and extreme temperatures.
+ Determined. Will not back down or waver.
Weak sides:
- Acts before she thinks.
- Too proud to ask for help, even when she needs it.
- Can appear to be rude and uncivilized, due to lack of education and social interaction over the years.
Picture:

I think that's it. If I can think of anything else, I will add it later. :)

I will mostly likely be down for this also, and will be likely to send one of the characters from one of my novels that I'm writing at the moment. Will post the specifics when I've decided who I'm gonna be. ;)

For obvious reasons, this will start after NSC 105 has ended. So use the plenty of time you have now to create your characters!

Chapter I
For a bottle of rum

3bgx.jpg

- Don't move! - A hoarse male voice broke the silence. In the middle of a forest glade a campfire burnt with a deer roasted over it. Next to it a tall young woman cloaked under a thick layer of furs and leathers sat on a fallen log, a dangerous-looking battle axe rested next to her. The man who just spoke up stood behind her, holding her at gunpoint.
- Don't move or I'll shoot your head off! - He said as he started to circle around at a safe distance, to stand in front of her. She could see the man clearly now. A middle aged strong-looking man with thick brown beard clothed in a dirty leather jacket was holding an old sturdy double barreled shotgun. A hunting bow was hanging on his torso. It was the first man Brynja would see since she had entered those woods some weeks ago.
- Now tell me who you are and what you are doing here! - He demanded as if his entire vocabulary was limited to banalities of the sort.

I said I would give up on this, but I obviously don't want to. I'd first like to ask if there's anybody who was really intending to join the game, but was super-busy the last two months. If there was never actual interest, then perhaps I could convert the ideas I had into a short novel.

Ok, let’s go again:

Chapter 2 : A new Beginning

- “No! No! That’s not how you start a high fantasy!”, one of the boys said to the others around the campfire.
- It was dark and there was a new moon, their fire being the only indication of light in the thick forest
- Another boy spoke up. “Okay then, if you think you can make a better opening, why don’t you try it yourself?”
- The first boy, evidently not a coward, accepting his challenge, began:

Once long ago, in the market town of Rèdarń, near the Griffin border, a new wind of change started to blow. Originally, Rèdarń was a small village of several cottages, maybe the occasional pub or inn, but nothing really happened much there, until a messenger came to the market square, at the town’s heart. “Hear ye all, citizens! The king comes bearing a message! His Majesty has decided to site a new castle within this town. But what did that mean for the common people? Soon they began to murmur among one another
