Glad you like it that much as well!

I also believe it's one of the best Eurovision entries ever but taking Greece's instant appeal as well as Israel's flawless and classy performance into account I had to rank "Cool Vibes" "lower". I wish I could give 12 points to them as well. A pity that they couldn't continue creating music as a band (the follow-up album wasn't as amazing as "Blue Tattoo").

:gr: Athens, Greece 2006

Personally, I think that 2006 was weaker than the previous years (2003-2005). There are 17 entries I would score :3: or less. That's 46% of all entries! - That said, this year also provided me some of my favourite entries - especially "Lejla" and "Alvedansen" (which was criminally underrated). On the one hand, I am quite sad that ::sbm didn't take part because that song would have been part of my Top 10 as well.On the other hand, if ::sbm hadn't cast their votes in the semi final, :pl: would have qualified.
:de: was criminally underrated as well. I really do believe that if juries hadn't been a thing back in the day, "No No Never" would have been part of the Top 10 or even higher. I can still remember how hyped the country was in our country. It even hit the #1 on your chart (which is a very rare thing for a Eurovision entry to do so). They still occasionally play it on the radio nowadays.
Kate Ryan not qualifying is probably one of the most shocking things in Eurovision history. I was really looking forward to Arsenium's entry.. he just had a moderate hit with "Love Me, Love Me"... I still listen to "Loca" - love its laid-back nature and chill atmosphere... actually, this would still work in 2021, imo.

:hr: is slaying on my scoreboard. Will the country continue its victorious ride?

Notable mentions: :mt: : and :ie: : (pretty good, sounded a bit dated and cheesy, imo, but I still go back to them from time to time). :gr: was great on stage!

:10:  Christine Guldbrandsen - Alvedansen

:4: :se: Carola - Invincible
:3: :ua: Tina Karol - Show Me Your Love
:2: :mk: Elena Ristevska - Ninanajna
:1: :be: Kate Ryan - Je t'adore

You´re not a fan of Lordi??

No. Actually, I was really angry at Finland winning that year. To me, it didn't feel that authentic (like when artists playing a radio-friendly "power metal" song with many pop elements and having to dress up like that and dropping "hard rock" in their lyrics several times to indicate how "heavy" they are). At that time, I have already been listening to Marilyn Manson, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Delain, Tarja etc. and usually, I dislike pop/rock entries - I prefer pure pop songs or heavy material with less pop influences, e.g. :fi: didn't make it into my Top 10 in 2007 either (this would be somehow in the same category) whilst my #1 is from the same genre but felt more genuine, authentic and honest to me.

That said, in retrospect, I'm quite happy for Finland for spawning its first victory, though.

:fi: Helsinki, Finland 2007

UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT: This Top 10 will probably be robbing your favourite entries. It contains many "unusual" choices.

2007 wasn't a strong year either, imo, still, I love my entire Top 5 (after that it gets a bit messier and more complicated). I haven't really been satisfied with the winning entry either. Whilst I adore a "typical" and "dramatic" Balkan entry, "Molitva" didn't click with me. Although I can totally see why it might have been appealing to many fans and the general public, I still can't see its magic. Actually, I think that Marija's vocals aren't doing it for me. Apart from that, I heavily dislike "Dancing Lasha Tumbai" as well - I just think it's utterly silly, repetitive and annoying track. It's fun, catchy and instant, though, thus, I can understand why it performed so well.

:sl: used to be my favourite until I learnt that :cz: actually submitted an entry when I bought the compiliations.Even though the Polish entry wasn't the best, I think it deserved to qualify... it somehow reminded a bit of the Pussycat Dolls and back in the day, I thought it was quite "contemporary" - an attribute which Eurovision was still rather lacking.
I still haven't processed the fact that Monrose didn't represent Germany. A missed opportunity!

:ie: was criminally underrated. I know that it looked amateur-ish on stage but the song itself is pretty enjoyable. I wouldn't mind to hear another entry like that form Ireland (but maybe from a more confident artist)

notable mentions: :cy: (probably my #11) followed by :pl:, :rs:, :pt: and :bg:

You know that I really like you, but when it it comes to your favourites I can only say: Hvala ne!! (n)

And that´s the polite way.

hehe. I know that our tastes in music really differ. A lot :D - Also, even family members state that my taste in music is kinda "bipolar" but honestly, I just like what I like... I can fully enjoy listening to a heavy metal song as well as a trashy bop. However, I love dramatic songs performed in their native tongue(s) in Eurovision as well but I can also appreciate contemporary sounding songs.. As long as there isn't a Britney or Symphonic Metal song included, I think that my taste isn't that "predictable".

I like you as well. So don't worry - we don't have to agree on ESC favourites ;)

:rs: Belgrade, Serbia 2008

What a competitive year! Actually, I was shocked in how much the quality has been improved by introducing two semi finals. I had the feeling that most countries set the bar quite high that year after Eurovision becoming more popular as well as knowing that one actually has to really fight for a place in the Grand Final. Unfortunately, I am not able to give room for 20+ countries in my top 10. Unlike 2007, I really ate up all fan favourites this time.
I still haven't progress that one of the best and strongest years in Eurovision spawned the worst Eurovision winner in history :(

Didn´t like the best three that year at all!! My personal favourite was :pt:, but I also liked . Your personal favourite
:am: was ok, actually it´s their only entry I like so far.

And yeah, :de: was such a big car crash that year.

I really wanted to see Armenia win that year.. I mean, it was even more tragic that Sirusho performed right after :de: which was - indeed - a car crash. The song itself is quite enjoyable (nothing to write home about) but that performance was one of the worst ones that night. I still feel bad for them... I actually don't know what went wrong because they used to be quite charismatic but they lacked everything. The staging, the choreography, the outfits, the vocals... everything was super embarrassing.

 was my family's favourite, btw ;)

Fair enough, I was never a big fan of "Hard Rock Hallelujah".xshrug

For me being a true Hard Rock/Metal-Fan, I also didn't like Lordi at all. There are good songs and bad songs in the genre of Metal as in every other genre. And Lordi wasn't mine at all. :(

Kabát - Malá dáma and Hari Mata Hari - Lejla were also in my top 3 those years. Fantastic songs! I know that many people didn't like Kabát, but I remember listening to it all days! xheat And Lejla is a legend. I get goosebumps everytime I hear it.

I'm glad you share my view on it as well. Friends knowing me loving some heavier music always expect me to love "Hard Rock Hallelujah" but it wasn't really my cup of tea at all. Back in the day, I think I even placed it very low :D

:ru: Moscow, Russia 2009

2009 is one of my favourite Eurovision editions ever (maybe even my favourite one) in terms of songs. It was such a triumphant year in so many ways: The quality improved. The popularity in Central and Western countries increased (making it possible for Germany taking an effort in 2010 and bringing back countries such as Austria and Italy after winning). Some stagings and performances were out of this world... I can still remember that I voted for 10+ different countries in the GF because I felt that all of them deserved some points. - Even songs which didn't qualify are part of my Eurovision all-time lists, e.g. :ch:, :cy: and I occasionally bop to :bg:, :hu:, :rs:, :ad: and :cz:, I have to admit.

Seriously, this year was incredible, e.g. I'd place the entries from :tr: and :cy: and :ba: as part of my Top 8 in 2007 or Top 6 in 2006.

My Top 10 of 2009, though, hasn't changed much throughout the years. I just think that :pt: is such a massive grower. I liked it back in the day but nowadays, I really do love it and it entered my Top 10 a few years ago. It's just so pure, honest, charming and lovely. It really makes me dream of a vacation in Portugal and it makes me smile as well. Unfortunately, I had to throw out the great Danish entry which is #11 on my list now.

notable mentions: :dk:, :fi:, :ro:, :uk:, :ba: , :es: , :al:, :tr:, :lt: were all amazing as well, imo.

2009 was indeed a really hot year. Patricia Kaas and Kejsi Tola rocked my top hard,

I like reading these write-ups Sven and your taste is very interesting. Unpredictable favourites at times.

I'm glad we share some of the same favourites that year!

Yohanna will probably not be able to top her result but I would love to see her back someday. Jónsi did a great job back in 2012 as well. Maybe Yohanna can come back as part of a duet as well? - She's such a great and talented vocalist!

 Oslo, Norway 2010

The unexpected did happen that year: After many miserable results, a Big 5 country finally won the competition and to my surprise, it was my very own! - I can still remember how hyped everyone was concerning Lena hopefully "making the Top 10". It was a shock to all of us that "Satellite" did actually win! - I can still remember how I watched it at a bar in Cologne, how everyone got freaked out, how my friends and I got interviewed by the local press as well as random people singing the chorus of "Satellite" in the streets of Cologne at night. WHAT A MOMENT TO BE A LIFE!

However, 2010 was indeed another great year (in my opinion) offering tons of diverse and interesting entries. I also enjoyed the stripped down stage compared to the massive ones of previous years. This might have been one of the factors why Lena actually won because no one got distracted by fancy LEDs and the viewers were able to focus on her charming (yet polarizing) personality?

My mother was so excited about Eurovision that year. I can still remember how SHE was the one introducing me to the Azerbaijani entry before the actual contest telling me that this is her favourite and it will be a huge contender for victory!

I can still not understand how Slovakia and Croatia didn't qualify and I am still mad at the juries being the reason for not seeing the charming Finnish entry in the final but overall, the Grand Final was filled with fantastic entries!
