Wow, what an emotional moment. When I think of Iceland I think of ShoeFlo. How could you leave your dear Iceland? It actually feels really sad


1.What was your favorite song?

Ólafur Arnalds "Fyrsta" (You made me so emosh when you sent this). Tilbury "Tenderloin", that's my favourite new discovery as of course I already knew Ólafur's song. Special mention to Low Roar's "Give Up". I'm listening to it now and am upset you never got a chance to send it. Probably would have been a near enough insta 12 from me in any edition since i've been playing. It's so beautiful and has a strong pull on me.

2.Which song was robbed?

Tilbury "Tenderloin"

3.Which song was overrated?

Thorsteinn Einarsson "Leya". Yeah, I think I gave it 2 points or something but I should be sent to jail for those 2 points as I really wasn't into it and I can easily say I think it's your weakest entry. Flo and pretty boy indie commercial pop? NEIN.

No, I have the first two seasons on DVD. Someone tried to get me into it but I just couldn't. It was alright but I lost interest a few episodes in. I'm more into murder mystery. Twin Peaks is the perfect series for me.

Hmmmmm that's a difficult one. I can appreciate some of it but it's probably the one genre i've yet to find a proper way in. I'm even listening to rap now

Because I wanted the adventure (being the US juror is nice and great, but it can become boring, too) and because I always thought Iceland must be more than the cage where all indie musicians in the world were trapped. So please expect a more pop side than cherished Flo ever showed. Beginning in WV 58 with what he already called the "Icelandic Britney" and her hit record from 2001.

So many flops were devastating, even though I had the chance to show some of the Icelandic songs I wanted to send for long. I even found some new pieces of music I liked, just like Viva la Brea, while I did not send others I originally wanted to send. I don't know if I will allow you to return to Iceland dear [MENTION=10674]Staewi[/MENTION] but I have to thank you for representing a different side of Icelandic Music scene in the previous 8 editions.
Given that tastewisely we are like Yin and Yang you did a wonderful job as Iceland juror. Before we made that exchange I feared that I wouldn't be able to stand your entries at all but I was surprised in a very pleasing way. There were some songs that I use to listen to by myself a few years ago and Thorunn Antonia was even in one of my WV lists (even though I never seriously considered her). You sent the Icelandic masters of Electronic music (GusGus), you gave me a very special guilty pleasure (Viva la Brea) and a nice ballad of Yohanna that I didn't know before. Also that song with Haffi Haff was an excellent troll that unfortunately wasn't appreciated.
I guess people can't deal with the fact that Iceland can also into Pop music. You totally confused and mindfucked the people here and thats the only reason you failed so much. Another 8 editions and they would have gotten used to Staewi's Iceland style and things would be gone in a positive direction for you. Anyway, good luck with 'murica. I think after all people prefer me being in Iceland and you in USA over the other way around so we're just taking the right step

My 7 months adventorous road trip through USA is over and now as I am tanned, have gained 20 kilos of weight and my caravan is broken it's time to go back to the isolated volcano island to which I belong.
It's the 9th of July and the day, when whiteshoes comes back "home". On this occasion Icelanders play their favorite coming-home-song, a classic from the 1960s that everybody can sing along:

The announcement of my comeback caused a storm of euphoria. It was the headline of every Icelandic newspaper and everywhere around Iceland there were car parades and sheep parades and people started building monuments. Finally all human as well as elves from Iceland gathered on a place in Reykjavik to celebrate the return of Mr. Shoes with old pagan viking rites:

I am gonna return with a famous Icelandic metal band. Brace yourselves!

I thought this chill and melodic piece of music will totally hit the taste of some people here and luckily I was right.
Soon the time will come when I send risky entries that are probably doomed to fail so it's good to polish my qualification record before I'll taint it big time.

Miðaftann certainly conveys the typical Sólstafir atmosphere but then again it's not a typical Sólstafir song. What they usually do is nordic powerful and atmospheric post-metal or black-metal.
I'd like to present you two of their other songs.

This is "Fjara" from 2011. With this song I discovered Sólstafir a couple of years ago. It's is beutifully rough and depressing According to Database it once failed miserably in Worldvision though

Another one is "Lágnætti" from 2014. It's in the same album as Miðaftann and it was also a hot contender for this edition. It's metal but at the same time it's beautiful and addicting. It was a hard decision between this and Miðaftann for this WV edition. I was collecting pro and con arguments for both songs and stuff like this. One day I got a personal message of a good friend of mine in which he told me to send Miðaftann although he didn't know about my plans yet. So I took this possibility to make a decision pro Miðaftann.

What a wonderful comeback result I didn't expect a place in mid-table cause this song is difficult but I've done it! Looking at the SF results it was very close and I could have failed easily if I had a little more unluck but then in final I got so many wonderful and surprising votings. I just hoped that the final would have been interrupted after 3 votings cause I was first place with a huge margin I hope I can continue like this and I hope I'll be able to surprise you with my Iceland stuff so that you never start getting bored cause this would be the worst thing for me. I'd better get hate than don't get any attention for my entries.
I gave a subtle hint for my next entry some posts ago... In addition I can tell you it will be a 6-minute-song consisting of long instrumental parts and less lyrics but the atmosphere of the song will be different than in Miðaftann

As some of you might have guessed before, I sent Svanur by Rökkurró. The first hint I gave was really tricky (one could think I send Gylfi Sigurdsson) but then Daniel came up with such an obvious hint (for those, who knew the song before)
Rökkurró took part before in WV 54 with the more accessible "Sjonarspíl" and become second-last in the final. "Svanur" is their biggest hit so if I somehow manage to survive the semi of death I will hope for a better result. I didn't send it before cause I thought it is a very risky and complicated entry but now I thought I could dare it
This song is my first classical approach. I love how the song developes and I love the wondrous piano play. It's an rather unique song, it's a piece of music and a piece of art. Hopefully you can see the beauty as well and if you didn't like the song after first listening, you should give it another try!
