I heard a snippet of "Wach auf" on Bendzko's Insta, and it was quite flat. If the song doesn't convince, then Raab shouldn't put him in the NF, no matter how big a name is ... I mean outside Germany nobody knows his name, and it is about ESC, not who is famous here. And tbh Bendzko's music isn't made for ESC. Then I would rather take an unkown act who DOES have a great song.

Yes and no.

We're getting 3 shows, a lot of effort and money is spent on it this time. Of course, RTL/ARD wants to get a bigger viewership than in recent years and bigger names attract more casual viewers.

I'd choose a good song by a newcomer over a medicore song anytime but come on, we got 24 songs.. even IF the song's snippet sounded a bit flat to you, there should be room for someone like him among 24 songs - unless they really came up with a bigger name... and if they did, please don't let it be Shirin David Oo - She would clearly attract Gen Z and all the kids with Tik Tok accounts, though... but oh boy.
I'd prefer Nina Chuba or Domiziana if we have to go that "musical route" :D

I'm old and I had no idea who Shirin David is, so I Iooked her up. I regret every choice that let me to this, and if we'd send that, I'd have to personally drive to Basel to set the Arena on fire before we could embarass ourselves like that. So please, gods, no.

I am not sure in this aspect. I still believe that German viewers shouldn't be the first reason to choose a famous name. Raab should look towards ESC and not towards German audience. I am also not sure how many Germans still know Bendzko's name anway. And I am sure that Raab will surprise us with 2-3 bigger names. Yes, I also hope it is not S. David. This wouldn't go far at ESC, I think.

this would be the real deal for germany. xxclapxparty
People at ESC Kompakt are speculating already if these guys are in at the NF. ;) I wouldn't rule it out completely, I think. Their last concert ist the beginning of February. And after that their first festival would be May 24th, a week after ESC' final. Accidentally?

I'm kind of with Mainshow. I don't care much for Tim Bendzko, and I think everything about his song project (" written for Eurovision", "important message for our current times") raises plenty of Max Mutzke-ish red flags lmao... BUT the pre-selection is big this year, and him not appearing in a field of 30 instead of some random people...

I think more than anything it just shows once more that established names don't really fit into this preselection format at all. What would have happened in the SFs? Would he have performed "Nur noch kurz die Welt retten" and then Raab lets him slip through (or not)? And based on what? I think everyone and their mother knows Tim Bendzko and his music style, so what would he even need to perform for. It doesn't really make any sense. And if the song was the issue - there are probably plenty of people without songs in this NF, they couldn't write anything else for/with Bendzko?

I'm really curious how this all plays out but I'm bracing myself for a by the numbers casting show (solo acts and bands).

While I could see EC still going to Eurovision in general, I really cannot see them being part of this kind of TV Format Raab & Co have cooked up. Given those "several rounds of singing competition in different disciplines of songs" kind of BS. Why on earth would EC do that too themselves? They are bigger than that, and they absolutely do not need it. I'd sadly expect their chance of participation to be a true 0.00000%.

But honestly I'd laugh my butt off if EC took part and than they get kicked out in the semi final by some dumb jurors because the guys didn't sing a Celine Dion song well enough. Given our Eurovision decision history, I wouldn't rule that out :ROFLMAO:

I think back then when EC came up with "Pump it", NDR missed their chance. Now the concept of this kind of songs is no longer new, surprising or innovative. We have had it several times in NFs and on the ESC stage so it kinda lost its USP.

I think we need to remind Germany every time when there is a new single from Electric Callboy that they fvcked up so hard by not selecting them when had a chance and post their bizarre explenation to get our daily dose of tears from laughter.

Finally the elevator music that I would listen to:
Ah yes, Eurovision. Europe’s favourite radio show…..

Wow this is absolutely crazy! A change we've been desperately in need for years now.

I'm thankful for NDR (and Raab) to make Lena happen but our NFs and how they have been treated (and all the messy rules and how often they changed) were a train wreck in recent years (minus 2013 maybe).

After almost 30 years, the NDR won't be in charge anymore Oo

That's massive! @Sean @ESC United Mod Team We need a 2026 subforum ASAP.

It's the first change of broadcasters in Germany in my life as a fan. This will be an interesting change!

ARD’s Programme Director Christine Strobl, said she was grateful to SWR “for being willing to take on this important task”:

The ESC is the ARD’s biggest show event – a symbol of a cosmopolitan Europe and a real campfire moment that inspires millions of people across all generations, whether on classic TV or in the media library. This is largely thanks to the NDR, which has continued to develop the brand with enormous commitment and will now, in collaboration with Stefan Raab, put a sure grand finale into it. I am grateful to the SWR for being willing to take on this important task and lead the ESC successfully into the future.

The only question is ... will it be better then? HOW will it change? I hope for the better ... will we have a NF or will the act be selected internally? What about Schöneberger? Questions after questions.

I know nothing, is SWR better? I remember there were rumours last year of it moving to some channel that does a lot of Schlager music or whatever and you guys were in meltdown.

I honestly dontdon't know if it's going to be better or even worse but it's very interesting to experience that change.
As a fan, I have only known NDR being responsible for ESC and apart from Lena and a few exceptions, we've been getting quite disappointing results in recent years.

Honestly, not letting Eskimo Callboy take part, infecting our NF with S!sters as a wildcard and letting g then perform last, selecting "I don't feel hate" by Jendrik, organising the worst NF back in 2022 and purchasing only 2 leftovers "Perfect Life" and "Wildfire" and forcing students to sing them back in 2017 were so many questionable choices which should have made Germany to think of switching broadcasters sooner.

I'm grateful for Lena - NDR had the balls to co-work with Raab and they all organised a brilliant ESC 2011 but for now, I'm excited that we'll be getting some fresh air.

I just hope that SWR will be able to finally establish a NF: sticking to a formula, name and voting system so that the general public could feel excited about it as well.

We don't need mathematics-calculations based on what 1,000 fans considered to be good songs. We don't need radio bosses over the age of 50 choosing our songs. We don't need online or radio votings. We don't need any club concerts or Wildcards.

But time will tell... for now, it's just crazy that they announce this change EVEN BEFORE our big national final with Raab for 2025 kicked off Oo
I mean, they even haven't announced the participants and our NF will air in less than 3 wks.

That's, indeed, a strange way to officialize some long-time needed changes.
Or maybe they already know 2025 songs are THAT bad and that there's no chance of winning this year.

It´s actually the second time, because when you were born in 1992 MDR was responsible for the German songs before NDR took over in 1996. ;)

Well, SWR has like all regional broadcasters quite a few radio channels. Here they are:

SWR1 - Targeting the middle age groups from 30-59, mainly focussing on Pop and Rock from 70s-90s with a few modern chart hits. Availabe in two regional versions for the states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate

SWR Culture - Cultural channel with a lot of word content. Musical focus on Classical music but also Jazz, Chanson and World music.

SWR3 - Pop channel for the age group 14-49. Mainly plays current chart hits as well as hits since the year 2000 with a a few classics from the 80s and 90s, both from German and International artists.

SWR4 - Mainly targeting people over the age of 50. Used to be dominated by Schlager music, now more towards older International hits and Pop music in German with only a few Schlagers left. Also available in two regional versions like SWR1.

SWR Aktuell - News channel, political talks and coverage of current events.

Dasding - Youth channel for the age group of 14-29. Plays mainly Hip Hop and RnB and some chart hits that are too "progressive" for SWR3.

Hope I could give you a little insight. :)
