I think he was only 14th? Which is of course still better than whatever Germany does these days.

But yeah, Eurovision is sometimes inexplicable. Sometimes songs take off and sometimes they don't. Sometimes I wonder how certain songs would do if sent by another country, it's all a bit weird.

But you can definitely say that Germany is still heavily influenced by Lena (and honestly, Nicole too) winning as a young, relatively unknown girl with a simple song and a minimalistic performance and they've been trying to recreate that ever since. It really seems like this is always defining our Eurovision sound.

Yes that was my mistake I thought it actually did better with televoters. But often enough also simple songs get got results.

Obvious last place was obvious. Gutted for Malik, he himself is capable of so much more, but the song was just hopeless. Happy that our broadcaster and Mrs. WolfsLAST were proven wrong though. These absolute buffoons... and can we talk about that hideous show after the final?

I'm honestly quite surprised the public was the one that saved Malik from going home with null point. I always thought this was more of a jury friendly song than televote. I'm glad he got some points tho. It wasn't a very strong entry but it wasn't deserving of getting null point from both juries and televote.

There was an article with a group of Dutch professional bookies in 2017 that kept massacring Germany throughout the piece "why do they keep sending way too W-European mild pop music, it won't work." You'd think some staff member would send it to the Germans, but no.

Juries gave points to some songs that were IMO enjoyable but also very bland and you forgot you were listening to them 3 seconds after they finished (Armenia and Belgium with 40 and 59 from juries, come to mind in this moment), so yeah I think 0 points was undeserved.

Well, they those two showed some better (or a little with Jérémy) singing with a larger range and a better staging, it's not radio after all. We agreed the staging was nonsense. So then you just fall from a top 10/15 place to this. As long as you go for these kind of songs, you will always rely on more Jury voting then Televoting as Germany, so the singing has to be on point.
