A pretty good start: some songs were ahead of their times, tbh. My winner is one of the first examples of oldstyle rock'n'roll in Europe, risky, but very well made... Aprite le finestre and Ne crois pas are both catchy and memorable. And then Lys Assia, our first winner: I love both of her songs, I think Refrain is a good pick for the first ever winner in Eurovision, but I can't place it higher than fourth following my own taste.

Great year: three new countries involved, the very first gimmicks in Eurovision 's history (Margot's telephone, Bobbejaan's whistle), the very first controversy (due to the length of Corde della mia chitarra) and a lot of memorable entries. Net als toen is in my opinion a wonderful entry and a worthy winner, with Skibet skal sejle i nat a very close second: a wonderful debuting song by Denmark. A stepback for the defending champion: Lys Assia's entry, L'enfant que j'etais, is a lot less memorable than her previous and future entries.

What a fantastic, incredible year it was... Really, everyone in my top 7 could have won. But Domenico was something else: Nel blu dipinto di blu is the most known Italian song worldwide and I think this has something to do with the feel good vibe the song has itself that trascended the linguistical barrier and even 64 years after it remains one of the most iconic songs ever presented in Eurovision. Maybe I'm biased, but I feel that way. Honorable mentions for Fud Leclerc (his performance was everything), for Alice Babs (great debut for Sweden) and for Lys Assia, with the joyful Giorgio (a song that never fails to put a smile on my face).

Maybe the weakest year of the '50s, songwise... But the Uk brought to Cannes an evergreen: Sing little birdie is my winner, because it stands out (with Denmark and Austria... Though I dislike the Austrian song) as the most joyful composition in this contest, otherwise dominated by classic chansons. Een beetje was a good winner, although not the best song presented by The Netherlands in the first years of competition.

The '50s: quite an interesting start. Obviously not the Eurovision we are used to, but a lot of songs are still remembered and appreciated. Some countries started their journey in the competition really well: Denmark for example was surprisingly good in the first years of competition, same for The Netherlands, Italy, Sweden and Luxembourg (not still the powerhouse it will become in the '60s and '70s, but managed to be on my podium spots twice with their first three entries).

1960... Not one of the best years, and kinda a slow start for a great decade of Eurovision... Still, this year produce a good winner, even though my personal favourite is Denmark. Actually I really like the songs in my top 6, but a lot of the entries are waaaay to slow to catch my interest.
