At the independence day reception she was asked if she’ll be in UMK, and she answered ”what’s UMK?”.

Theory A: of course she knows what UMK is so this means she’ll be in the selection.

Theory B: she answered truthfully.

I would absolutely love to see one of my favorite bands ever participate in UMK, the one and only BEAST IN BLACK! I don't think they've ever been associated with Eurovision in any way, but they could technically fit that one clue about an "energetic band". Here's some of their finest songs for people who don't know them:





(this one is a live performance, the middle part is obviously not a part of the song)

Are there any other Beast in Black fans here?

Finland has such a great tradition in metal and rock, it'll be a shame of we don't see more of it in Eurovision.

Beast in Black would be amazing.

I've always sort of fantasized of Nightwish in Eurovision too, that ship is sailed nowdays though, their current music wouldn't translate well and they would never do it. I still stand by the point of them being the winning participants of the 00s that never were though.

Unfortunately, it seems like we're not getting Beast in Black at UMK this year. Something I have discovered after my original post was that Beast in Black have the whole spring booked for tours (including in May). Seems like we'll have to wait and hope they finally decide to apply next year.

So Mary J. Blige is part of UMK lineup accompanied by an Egyptian malamute?
I dunno know why but it makes me think of Erika Vikman, malamutes taking the place of 2020 bears... Her song may be called "Mary J Blige" after "Cicciolina", amusing choice of cultural references!
(But it doesn't explain the Sphinx)

(EDIT 15:39. This explanation on Instagram points to ETTA --> "Ettalla on kappale Yötön yö eli seitsemän kukkaa. The Egyptian Travel Agents Association lyhennetään ETTA". "Yötön yö" may explain the seven flowers (a bit of context here)... But Mary J Blige, I still do not get it?)

So, if I sum it up, we may have Poets of the Fall, Hevisaurus, Erika Vikman and Goldiesocks in the bag.
I would be surprised to see both POTF and Hevisaurus in the same lineup, to be honest. I feel like #7 is about Abreu, different category than Erika, but I'd be still surprised if both of them are in at the same time.
