2020 IS COMING TO AN END
TIME TO SHARE OUR FAV MUSIC FROM THIS YEAR

So I don't really have a favourite song, however recently I created a ranking
I listened to 60 albums/eps that dropped in 2020

So this is everything. The highlighted titles are the ones that stood out to me the most.
It doesn't mean I didn't like the not-highlighted ones.

Out of the highlighted group I created my top 10

That's a fabulous collection there Ari, and I love your little handwritten list of the albums and eps you listened to.

This year has just been terrible when it has come to me and listening to new music, and considering the whole... well, 2020 situation, I should have been exploring more. I did though listen to these and enjoyed them:

loXGVng.png

Annie - Dark Hearts
Sadistik - Delirium
Sadistik - Elysium
Pink Mexicio - Idiot Piss Illiterate
Kurt Vile - Speed, Sound, Lonely KV (ep)
Riki - Riki
Margo Price - That's How Rumours Get Started
Courtney Marie Andrews - Old Flowers
Adrianne Lenker - Songs
Bompops - Death In Venice Beach
Perfume Genius - Set My Heart On Fire Immediately
Lemon Twigs - Songs For The General Public
Max Richter - Voices
Justin Johnson - Whiskey Sippin Music (vol 1 & 2)
Nicole Atkins - Italian Ice

FAVOURITE SONGS

(in no particular order and excluding eurovision related tunes)

The two Sadistik mini albums were by far my most listened to records of 2020. For a third year running, he's been my most played artist overall. Despite that, I think my song of the year is either the dreamy In Heaven by Annie or the synthphonic version of Margo Price's I'd Die For You. Although in fairness, that title actually belongs to Ana Soklic's Voda. It moved me so deeply and I think will stay vividly there in my head forever as a reminder of this year. One beautiful thing at least did come from it for me.

I didn't realise or forgot BoA had released an album!

Definitely my top 4 songs of the year:
1.:lt: Igle-Neiseik, dar pabuk (I actually hadn't got into Lithuanian music much before!)
2.:jp: Utada Hikaru-Time
3.:uk::wale: Elin Fflur-Enfys
4.:uk::en: Steps-What the Future Holds

Albums is trickier because I don't listen to many other than Now CDs but in the rare times I've purposefully looked up ones that I can online from this year or previous I did actually like Ocean Grove-Flip Phone Fantasy (:au:) though I don't listen to rock that often!

Not a good year for music imo but there are a couple of albums I would warmly recommend. Some of them were named before

01. Annie - Dark Hearts ... the album I was always waiting for without being aware of. Somewhere between finest 80s Synth-pop and Dream Pop à la Julee Cruise. I read somebody saying this album is like a soundtrack for a movie that havent been created yet. I think that's spot-on. Outstanding song for me: Untold story

02. :is: Ásgeir - Bury the moon/Sátt ... Certainly an improvement after the hit-and-miss album Afterglow... good mix of yearning and cozy folk, catchy indie-pop, intriguing and sometimes even sinister Electronic songs... can't really name one favorite (thats why I made a WV national final), but my most listened was Until Daybreak

03. :is: Jónsi - Shiver ... very very experimental album, very huge range... electronica, trance, art-pop, dance, distorted sound patterns, glitched vocals... feels like a drug trip. I wouldn't have enjoyed this probably two years ago. I became a little more open-minded lately and I really like this album, Jonsis voice always made my heart beats faster, whatever he created. So I am probably biased anyway. Favorites: Sumarið sem aldrei kom, Salt Licorice, Grenade

04. :de: Ost+Front - Dein Helfer in der Not ... more like an "exotic" recommendation if you appreciate industrial metal in the manner of Rammstein, just a bit catchier, poppier and sometimes even danceable (then again, the last Rammstein album was quite "soft" and accessible anyway). Understanding German and knowing background stories help at some points, this is especially true for Honka Honka. Outstanding songs: Honka Honka, Porco Dio, Die Räuber

05. :se: LEON - Apart ... A nice artist I've got to know through Worldvision. Nice mixture of Synth-Pop, Chamber Pop, a slice of folk and piano-driven ballads... songs to listen: Apart, Seventeen

06. :us: Sufjan Stevens - The Ascension ... I am still about discovering this one but the first impressions are quite positive.. Surprised to hear Sufjan also take the Electronic path after being notorious for his gentle folk tunes. But he created some amazing soundscapes. Well done!

More albums I remember being nice:
:dk: Agnes Obel - Myopia
:us: The Flaming Lips - American Head
:is: Mammút - Ride The Fire
:de: tomeque - hallo welt_

In this years Bruce Springsteen album there was one song I liked (House of a Thousand Guitars) but I didnt really dig deeper into that album

Biggest disappointment this year was probably the Novo Amor album. Maybe I just expected too much but I in the end there was no song that really stuck in my mind.

I created a playlist containing 111 songs and here it is
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8JmiRbP2P7Mdn9SkwmgsVFFfTFq1Ern4
xcookie

I've included "International", "Eurovision bubble" (mostly ESC artsts plus some NF stars) and "local" (from my country and ex-yu) songs

Restrictions i used:
-no eurovision songs
-no eurovision candidate songs
-one song per (lead) artist
-if audio is from last year, music video had to be from 2020.

I dare you to listen to everything:devilish::lol:

Not wanting to dance anymore, but I must dance
Fashionably late and no singles because this took a lot longer to compile than I thought it would and I know I'm missing some stuff but oh well XD It was cool to see similar tastes among the others, as well.
