Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov talking about EDC 2010:

We see that the number of participating countries is still insufficient. We would like to see participants from across Europe visiting Azerbaijan and getting to know our country. However, we see that countries wishing to participate in this contest, basically, represent the Balkans and ex-USSR. And it does not coincide with our plans and desires. We want to see in the competition such countries like Germany, Spain, France, United Kingdom. If these countries do not participate, there is no point in spending such a big amount of money on the organization of the competition. On the other hand, some EBU members want to participate for our money -> this is impossible.

Kinda embarrassing that the UK is out already when it was the BBC's idea, but then the viewing figures for EDC were very poor even when they were hosted in the UK :( can't see France taking part, and Spain already showed they're not interested...

What's your source for that? The original statement makes it pretty clear they haven't applied yet...

wikipedia isn't a very good source for .. well anything much really! Not announcing a withdrawal doesn't mean they have applied, either. Anyway I guess we'll find out in due course, if we actually ever get another edition of EDC!

I think that if EDC will be brought back to life again, they need to modernize the contest alot!

Why not have all sorts of dancers? Breakdance, tango, ballet...well every kind of dancing.
A contest quite similar to the Eurovision Young Dancers, but with any age: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Young_Dancers

With shows like "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Strictly Come Dancing", the viewers like to see dancing, but it's boring with only amatures in a "professional" contest as EDC wants to be.

If EBU decides to modernize it, more contries will join and possibly the viewers likes it better! :)

+1. The Eurovision Dance Contest is a good idea and has a great premise- the EBU just need to work with it better. In fact, why not cancel the ailing Junior Eurovision Song Contest and divert the funds to the EDC?
