It really is a pity that the cypriots couldn't afford anything, cause they always pull out something extraordinary... This year it was a very dull singer singing a very dull song, so it was destined to do badly :?

so for a song to qualify, u think that this can be achieved only if u have fires or dragons or acrobats or maybe the 300 from Sparta on stage.......?

Then, ...dull singer................???classy YES, but dull.................???

Anyway, I really feel Cyprus should have qualified!!!!!iac, CONGRATULATIONS TO DESPINA, I believe she did pretty well!!!

I'm one of few people that thought her perfomance was great. Before the semifinal I didn't like the song that much, but her performance made me vote for her and I'm glad I did. :D

you know, when the song's strongest bid is the voice of the singer, you have to be perfect... or close to it...
i felt sorry for her. key change was painful and it took her some time to get into it...
when it happens towards the end and on one of the strongest parts of the song (which key change almost always is) it ruins the whole impression.
i understand why she didn't qualify. quite a few other ballads were sung perfectly, and it's too many of the same thing that a mistake like that could cost you.

Absolutely, she failed on the key change and that certainly cost her a lot of televotes I'm afraid. Still was a classy performance overall, she's a wonderful artist.

Lanskaya's song is catchy and the performance did it all. Roberto doesn't sing even half as bad as everyone seems to be thinking, and he did not miss his high note at the end unlike Despina.

But I think the main reason why she did not qualify is the song. It's an unremarkable ballad and got completely overshadowed by Moldova and Estonia.

like i said, when the song is about belting out notes, you better belt them out correctly and strongly... exhibit 1: Zlata. Exhibit 2: Alyona Moon. Ezhibit 3: Estonia (lol sorry, i will break my fingers typing her name)

Lanskaya's song was a bout flash, simple choreo that can be repeated, and a catchy chorus. and the on notes she was supposed to belt out she was perfect.
Roberto's song also didn't rest on voice. at all. it was more about charm and mood on stage. He never claimed to be pitch perfect singer (although i do question the quality of The Voice competition that year, was that the best voice? doubt it)

point is. if you claim to be able to paint like Rembrandt, you better deliver a masterpiece, you you are Pollock that creates something using technique available to 5 year old, but capture with color and mood - nobody will demand an anatomically correct creature to be visible in your white noise.

Well done Despina for singing in native language and for your professionalism all the way. This is one of the most stylish and professional singers in this year. The song is very nice and was sang beautifully by Despina .xrose

I'm happy that this song didn't pass to the final, but at the same time I have to admire Despina and other artists sending songs in native languages. So I say well done Cyprus, and don't feel bad.

What were reactions in Cyprus, if any? Hope they were not negative towards Despina, because she did her best.

I didn't hear any special reactions to be honest, from the radio I heard some commendators reading some sms from people and saying that they were sad because Despina was great etc. And some moaning like "nobody votes for us, we have no friends, etc" like they do every year. Despina said in an interview that she came back feeling like a winner and that she didn't lose anything.

About the non-qualification, well let's be honest, no matter if the song was nice and had a classy performance, the truth is that it was totally unremarkable in a semi full of ballads. Given the fact that we didn't have any gimmick on stage (no rising up platform, shiny dress, giants, etc) and also the running order that proved to be not so good (it was the last ballad after so many ballads). Estonia had a simple sweet ballad in native language with a simple performance as well but it qualified, and I think it was beacuse it was performed before all other ballads, and also it had some visual help as well. And it was in my opinion more memorable song.
