This thread is for cool stage effects we would like to see used in the ESC.

I'm surprised we haven't seen this used already yet....

It would be quite messy with the electronics of the contest, and even with the outfits and hairstyles of the artists. Jedward are a prime example like, with the plastic outfits and the lack of trademark sticky-up hair

These so many changes that Sweden will do to the contest, maybe they will harm it! OK, changes most of the times are good, but these are so many!

I don't know why everyone's assuming that Sweden stripping back the stage is akin to the stage just being something you'd find in a theatre in a small town. Oslo 2010 was very minimalist and downsized and it was a wonderful staging. Much better than Baku or Dusseldorf I feel!

While I personally disagree with the staging in Norway (I thought it looked dumb), my point was the fact that there is a tight budget in Sweden, even moreso than it was in Oslo. Do you really believe that they're going to spend any money on those effect mentioned above? I was referring to their low budget which includes the Staging.

Don't we all remember the Swedish press release where they wanted to end the technical arms race?
To sum it up, they are way better than those stupid Russians and Germans to spend money on that kind of crap.

Oh no I'm not saying that's what you're saying at all, but the general discourse about the staging just seems to be one of doom and gloom and fear that SVT will just pull out a kitchen table and make them sing on that. I did think NRK did a lot with little though, almost every song had a different feel, which, for me, is the hallmark of an amazing stage. I mean Turkey looked so different from Israel which looked so different from Ukraine which looked so different from Germany which looked so different from Albania etc. etc. In comparison all the songs in 2004 felt similar, a very bad job by TRT imo

Right, I was solely referring to the special effect shown in the first post and that with the Swedish budget as is I don't see that happening. And you can definitely do a lot with a smaller budget. You'd need a creative team & a vision which is something I didn't see in Oslo. The Stage to me was probably the worst since I've been watching the show...though everything else about Oslo was good (theme, hosts, songs etc).

I just hope there is some lights and colour shows, if it's all just white lights it will be so dull.

The magic for me happens when each song is "brought to life" through the staging and lighting effects/pyrotechnics etc.

I really do hope that the winner this year will keep the budget for next in the same range as this year cool stage effects doesn't has to cost a lot of money

^ Exactly and I don't want to see effects overpowering the song. I'd hate it if it turned into "let's vote for the coolest stage show" rather than "let's vote for the best song".
