I'm kidding 😎😎😎

Imagine in 1991, France would have won with the rules as we know them now. How that would have changed the narrative of ESC history.

France clocking in at 6 wins to date, and Sweden at 5 (including the thefts of 1984, 1999 and 2015). In 2021, we would have been so thrilled to know if France could finally catch up with Ireland, not Sweden. Damn, what a wasted opportunity 31 years ago. France would have been the leading country in Euro wins until 1995 together with Ireland which broke away a year later. (It was tied with the most wins back then until 1993).

France' song was way superior, but the tie-break rules and the Scandi bloc worked against them. I have to admit, as a little boy, I was more excited for the captivating stormvind, but now as a grown dude, I don't see any redeeming qualities, while I am realising the loss we suffered.

Of course, I am also still unhappy how Sweden snatched the victory in 1999 with such an irrelevant over Iceland, which also belonged to the Scandi bloc, but apparently not its favourite member state. And 2015 of couse, how the absolute record breaking televote winner got blocked by a trite David Guetta rip-off with a then-cool but terribly aged staging. But 1984 was probably one of the worst songs that ever won the contest in otherwise not so terrible edition. Imagine Ireland winning and now holding 8 wins (sounds boring, too, but is a totally legit assumption, maybe it would have satisfied Johnny Logan and Linda Martin so much that they would not have returned to ESC though, who knows).

But Sweden getting away with so many bland entries is the main source for oddmakers to put them so high every year.

Of course, there are diamond and pearls in Swedish Eurovision history, and particularly at Melodifestivalen (Lena Ph, Dotter, The Monikers....), but the main course is mostly fast food that jurors are eating up always.

This song was/is wonderful. I somehow knew it without knowing it was at the ESC! I was surprised when someone asked me to listen to it and me recognising it immediately. It sounds fascinating unlike most of the early 90s Eurovision corny boredoms (some of them ended up winning the contest).

Looking at the odds on eurovisionworld, there is only 4 website of bets counted currently. Why ? I saw yesterday ukraine and russia were both missing on two of them, but why all countries now ?

I think because yesterday's attack to Ukraine has effected Russian drop. This is only a good thing.

Yeah, I agree with you and think the same - I just think it´s "hilarious" that :de: keeps on dropping even though ESC lost "one of its favourites" and thus, Germany´s chances to win should have improved instead

I find it hilarious that the entire bottom 3rd of the odds are all filled with songs which have been released. I feel like that's kind of a testament to the weakness of ESC 2022 when the oddsmakers are saying that every non-existent song (except Romania LMAO) has a higher chance of winning than half of all our known songs so far.

Ukraine being 36% is both understandable... and kind of unfortunate? It's like one vote for Ukraine will be a statement of I stand with Ukraine, but it didn't mean much towards the song quality nor strength of the other competitors.

If Ukraine doesn't win this now, the bookies will take big losses. It's almost like betting on Ukraine is a risky bet. You'll lose your money if they don't win but the odds they have at the minute you are unlikely to get anything close to a decent payout or if their odds shorten even further you'll get even less back than what you bet on.

Actually I think bookmakers are smart. With odds they have painted a situation of stability where anyone can win. Putting Ukraine in the first position is tantamount to telling you not to vote for them. Many fans will invest in the Top 10 nations and the payouts could be high.

So... this time it's Greece (or Poland, hopefully and finally)? ;)
