They made a couple of grave errors. One, they didn't promote it properly. Two, the format was difficult to understand. And three, which I think is the gravest error of all, the show was scheduled against American Idol

It was never going to work as an all US competition. Most songs were typical X-factor songs and unlike European countries, there's little room to showcase culture, tradition etc, so 50 songs of that was just boring. Not to mention that Jewel flopped..

Make a big contest including the entire Americas and then things can get interesting.

How many failed out-of-Europe-contests (Asia, USA, Africa) do they need to understand, that the ESC is not copiable?
And Christer: even if you thought it: you are not Eurovision. Eurovision is bigger than you.

Eurovision is part of the European culture, won't work anywhere else. And you may say: "but Australia is successful and the show is followed by lots of people". Yeah, maybe that's because Australia is a Land of immigrants and the majority of them came from Europe and have European ancestry? Just, maybe?

Alexa's song was great and ranks high even among my favourite actual Eurovision songs but you should seriously check out her Korean stuff like her songs Bomb, Do or Die, Revolution and Villain. The production on the videos are amazing. They are like literal cyberpunk action movies. Couple of them have pretty good fight scenes.

Funny thing is that Eurovision isn't even that big in Australia, it's a myth pushed by EBU to coup them into the contest. Yes, they broadcasted the show for decades, yes they have a big European diaspora, but when you talk to Australians and check the stats it's really a pretty niche show. But yes, Australia has a much "newer" European immigration than the USA so the ties are clearly stronger (majority of Americans also have European ancestry but as we know it goes further back and they're already Americanized by now).
