I have the feeling that last year we had an higher mean level but also some atrocities. This year there are more "meh" songs, but nothing really horrible. Both years have a few gems that save the day.

2012 was one of the strongest years yet imo, I'll comeback with my vs. verdict later on... but I tend to surprise myself each year I do this one...

2012 had a high "love it or hate it" concentration of songs; most of them were, IMO, very damn good or very damn horrible.
This year, is mostly a "Okayish" year: some songs are better than others, but they have a similar level.

Yeah, me 2! But so far, in general 2012 was a much stronger year, hands down!

well ... for me it's not that obvious!
2012 had many bad songs & this year there are only a few bad but many "ok-songs" ... I have to admit that I only hate 1 song this year! 2013 isn't as bad as everybody says imho

I'll probably do my comparison thing next month. But I have to agree that 2012 had more quality.

Last year was the most exciting Eurovision for me. It had what I can easily say is probably my favourite song ever "Suus". I was emotionally attached to Rona's song. Then it had Kaliopi and of course Queen Valentina. Sofi Marinova on stage alone was simply epic. Loved Can, Pasha, Ott, the Grannies.. Nina until she changed her song (which i'm still bitter about). There were plenty of other entries as well that year I could enjoy.
This year however... goodness is it awful. At this moment in time I have........... BONNIE! Thats it, just Bonnie. Tomorrow i'll have Valentina and hopefully Esma & Lozano once more. Zlata's song is good although i'm less excited for it than I once was. I respect the entries of Norway and The Netherlands although i'm not crazy for either of them. I also secretly enjoy Romania's offering but thats about it. Just a terribly dull year.
Maybe my mind will change when I get the cd cause at the moment I can't be bothered to listen to most of this years songs again.

I will do my ranking next week and while I also believe 2012 most likely was stronger it's not a fair comparison as to me it was one of the strongest years since I've been watching it so i can't be too upset. Plus 2013 is already way better than 2011....

For me, this year is the weakest for a decade or so. The 3 years of ESC have been awesome, so I guess a bad year was due.
