Croatia CROATIA 2024 - Baby Lasagna - Rim Tim Tagi Dim

I was looking for support for my opinion that the Croatian song is bad. So I played it for my old mother - thinking that a song like that doesn't appeal at all to the elderly. But - unfortunately - she likes it! A devastating blow ...

Italy ITALY 2024 - Angelina Mango - La noia

Not possible, as far as I know. I have posted in the wrong thread a couple of times. Couldn't find a way to delete it. So I edited it and changed the text into a "." ...

Italy ITALY 2024 - Angelina Mango - La noia

It wouldn't make sense either tbh - if you analyze the meaning and origin of the word paranoia. But nevertheless, in Denmark "noia" is slang for "paranoia" (first registered in the 1970's).

    Armenia ARMENIA 2024 - Ladaniva - Jako

1993 is a relevant year, definitely. :) There was a pre-qualification round. Serbia was banned from this. I don't think Bosnia and Croatia were at war with each other. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kvalifikacija_za_Millstreet

Italy ITALY 2024 - Angelina Mango - La noia

In how many countries is “noia” used as a short version of the word “paranoia”?

The whole Melfest 2024 sounded like something from 10 years ago.

    Misheard Lyrics 2024 Edition

“Anxiety and sex” (Croatia). I support this one.

    Armenia ARMENIA 2024 - Ladaniva - Jako

Has there ever in Eurovision history been an edition where two participating countries were in war with each other? The scenario doesn't seem too unlikely this year. In 2014 it was almost the case, I believe.

    Fan flops/Dark Horses

My theory is that falsetto songs tend to disappoint. In that respect, it's a paradox that the only major falsetto success came from Switzerland, while Switzerland this year is one of the entries I expect to do worse than predicted because of the falsetto. One of the weaknesses of falsetto is...

    Norway NORWAY 2024 - Gåte - Ulveham

I don't know if the Danish and Swedish televoters will back this up entirely. Maybe it depends on what is said about the song before the performance. If people know: hey, it's an old Scandinavian folk tale and all that -, then that will make a difference. But when the Danish jury announced their...

Ireland IRELAND 2024 - Bambie Thug - Doomsday Blue

Most often, when I see people saying either-or about a song, it ends up in the middle.

Ireland IRELAND 2024 - Bambie Thug - Doomsday Blue

How on earth could I call this song the worst Eurovision entry in history and still give it a 4 in my rating? It doesn't make sense. Maybe I just acknowledged the visuals. It feels like an eternity since that song was chosen. Many other noisy joke acts have been released since then.

Cyprus CYPRUS 2024 - Silia Kapsis - Liar

That's why I respect the countries that refrain from participating in the JESC.

Oh, I forgot to rate this one. A 3 it is. I won't listen to it again unless I'm forced to it.

    Norway NORWAY 2024 - Gåte - Ulveham

It is a "noisy" song, sure - that's the trend. I liked 'Hammer Of Thor' slightly more. I don't know why that song wasn't more successful. It was certainly not a typical pop song and yet quite melodic.

    Norway NORWAY 2024 - Gåte - Ulveham

True. I was thinking about La Noia today. It's a nice song, but there is no melody that "sticks". I will never go around humming that song. Same goes for a number of the entries recently released in the south-eastern countries. I believe we may well be seeing the most unmelodic Eurovision...

    Norway NORWAY 2024 - Gåte - Ulveham

The big trend this year is the lack of strong melodies. I considered counting how many entries have a chorus with more than two or three notes. It’s not many. It seems the beat is becoming increasingly important in Eurovision. The Cha Cha Cha effect.

    Norway NORWAY 2024 - Gåte - Ulveham

It’s two very different approaches. The song you are refererring to is a Runrig kind of song. British-Irish folk rock. Ulveham is much more of a medieval folk song, with the explicit reference to a special type of singing in the intro (a sample from an old recording). The lyrics are to a large...

    Norway NORWAY 2024 - Gåte - Ulveham

When I gave Norway an 8 a couple of months ago, I was convinced the song would be surpassed by at least 4-5 better songs later on. But ... that didn't happen! So Norway is my number one. Quite surprising to myself. But of course also disappointing - what a weak year this is proving to be.
