Given how long the show is, is the current start time (8 pm GMT, 9 pm CET etc.) optimal? I'm thinking starting one hour earlier would make the time more tolerable further east, whereas 7 pm is hardly too early in GMT-countries. Or is it?

I recently heard about this theory. Apparently people tend to have very fond memories of ESC the year when they were 12 years old. Either an all-time favorite song, or the whole show generally. Don't know if there's a similar thread somewhere, but what is in your opinion the best ESC-year ever? My personal favorite is 1992. It's one of the first ones I watched, and there were a lot of great songs that year.

Do all channels in different countries have subtitles to the songs, or is this the case in only some countries? If a song is in a language I don't understand at all I think it's nice to know what they're singing about. On the other hand songs in languages I understand are better without...
