Song 4: Bashar Murad – "Wild West"
At the time of tonight's live performance, this is still the favourite to win Söngvakeppnin 2024 tonight, but bookmakers’ odds are still no guarantee this will win. "Wild West" is what I would call a country song. Looking at the lyrics, this begins with four blocks of four lines each. Strings can be clearly heard during these blocks. I like the combination of strings and drum beats during the gap between the lines “You gotta change the taste” and “I gotta hit the highway”. The chorus is sung in a bouncy manner, has backing singers, and a good beat. The section “Welcome to the wild wild west” to “Saddle up now, don't you miss it” serves as a bridge, and features some western style sounds. After a final instance of the chorus, the line “Welcome to the wild wild weѕt” provides a perfect ending to this style of song. As far as tonight's performance goes, rocks, desert and a path appeared at different times during the first instance of the chorus. Different images appeared during later instances of the chorus. Altogether a likable song, Bashar has a good voice and sang well live tonight.

I will be frank, I love "Wild West" and would like to see him winning but vocally Bashar wasn't on point and the staging needs to be tweaked, love the choreo, but I find it too dark.
Anita could be a good alternative for Iceland/RÚV even though Bashar is the only one in the nf that could qualify to the final in Mälmo.

Song 5: Sigga Ózk – "Into the Atmosphere"
The last song of the five already. This is the wildcard qualifier for tonight’s final, but don’t let that influence you. It’s got a good introduction, a sequence of up and down notes. Sigga sings the first verse in a bouncy manner, and the last 3 lines of the opening verse have what sounds like a clapping sound. The pre-chorus has a beat to it. The chorus is the pair of lines:

Good energy, into the atmosphere
Good energy, good energy into the atmosphere

… twice over. The notes sequence, heard at the beginning, is featured here. It’s certainly a catchy chorus, I think it's a bit repetitive. After a second verse and second instance of the pre-chorus, the chorus appears again. All in all, not bad a song, and I thought Sigga generally sang well live tonight, but the number of instances of the chorus lines is somewhat repetitive. Tonight's staging included the fountain effect of blue dotted lines on the background screen; presumably that was intended to indicate energy flow. Furthermore, the dancers provided a welcome enhancement to tonight's performance.

41 minutes in and we are yet to hear the fourth song
Well the gaps between songs were rather long tonight. Last weekend, HRT managed to keep the gaps between songs nice and short between songs in the Croatian national final Dora 2024. Why do RÚV want such long gaps between songs in Söngvakeppnin tonight?
