I know a lot of people thinks france 3 doesn't care about eurovision but i think they are wrong.

2008 song was great and did ok.

2009 was amazing and did good.

2010 is different and very likeable and might do great with a good performance.

I think and i hope our brodcaster is trying again next year and will select a different but great song

David Guetta, Mylene Farmer, Chimene Badi would all be amazing

I hope they keep sending amazing stuff as they've done in past years. I also hope they get more appreciated. 2008 & 2009 were my faves at the time of the contest, while 2010 is still in my top 10. I also think 2005 should've won. About 2006 & 2007, I like 'em but needed a lot of listenings to get there.

Something more Sebastian Tellier-ish please  France is good at the electro house dance stuff so they should finally try a song in this style. I'm sure there's many unknown artists who would like some more exposure, but ehh I'm just dreaming here

I think Medi-T should try again :D Their song from 2007 was so awesome, that i can't believe even now, how Les Fatal Picards managed to beat them :?

Mylene Farmer, Tina Arena and David Guetta would be great as well

Imo, all latest French entries sucked big time except Patricia.
Berberes should follow 2009 scheme and continue inviting famous performers.

Mylene will never agree.
Alizee ... hnmmm, she needs something big after breaking up with Mylene so it would be a nice option but she sucks live.

Christophe Maé, please. Jena Lee (not a fond of her though) or Mika. Guetta will ask big money, imo.

The runner-up of the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest, Amina, should give it another try. If the actual rules of the ESC would be applied for that year, the winner would be her, not Carola from Sweden...

I was about to post that, too. It'd be awesome if I finally see one, as I didn't really watch NFs in 2007, even if I had started to become really interested in the contest. ;) France is the best no matter what, though.

I'm afraid though that a NF in France won't attract any established names and it'll most probably be some sort of Idol-ish cr*p with nobodies :(

evilperson
30th December 2010, 07:58
France actually had quite a strong NF the last time they staged one in 2007. It could be quite interesting to see what they come up with this time.

This song (the runner-up) was totally robbed in 2007 (imo) and France selected quite an average (but not too bad) song from what was on offer.

Agreed. France have probably been my favourite country of the last three years with internal selections. Having set such a high standard, I can only view this change as a negative.

My only hope is that there are now so many established stars desperate to appear on Eurovision, there's a demand for a national final.

A-lister

I hope your analysis is correct, if not I'm afraid it could turn out not too well :/ Oh well let's see.

evilperson

Established singers aren't everything. Many new artists can have just as good, if not better songs to put forward for the contest.

A-lister
30th December 2010, 20:34
^
This CAN be true offcourse, but quite often it is not. A total nobody doesn't have that backing of a record company and all the resources that comes with that (good producers, songwriters etc.)

What I'm most afraid is that it'll be some sort of casting show a la American Idol/X-Factor.. And i'm very much opposed to that concept.

Schlagerman1
30th December 2010, 20:37
^It worked for Germany this year, so why wouldn't it work for France? :)

In 2006 it didn't for them, but it was because the song was very dull and boring.
Let's give them a chance then, but I agree a bit, their internal choices has been super so they should keep with it! :)

A-lister
30th December 2010, 20:43
^
Well it worked in that case with Germany (thanx to a special singer and an actual good and in the context original enough song). It didn't work for the UK though (yes I know "My Time" scored well but imo that song sucked and 2010 was disaster).

evilperson
30th December 2010, 20:47
The last time France had an NF, all of the acts were put forward by record companies and backed by the different channels in the network responsible for ESC, I believe.

I think with the success of the last two years, the NF concept might be a great idea.

A-lister
30th December 2010, 21:06
^
Well that's for sure, problem is that that NF didn't have ANY good entry I think (well the winner was ok, but more on the joke side sort of).. well that's my opinion.

I hope you're right though and that the previous years have somehow made the French more interested.

PeterLPZ
31st December 2010, 00:27
I hope, this is the right decision to make a NF.
I liked the songs of the last two years and I think, it was right, to send well-known singer to represent France.
I can´t imagine, that well-known artists will sing in the NF. I know this from Germany - no "star" wants to sing at a NF. So it will be the same in France.

evilperson
1st January 2011, 20:44
There is a rumour that the NF will not be multi-artist, but rather a single internal selection of an artist and then an NF to select the song.
The same rumour goes on to mention that the broadcaster is very close to inking a deal with Shy'm.

Whether any of this is true, we'll have to wait and see! :)

The choice of the French representative in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest will be made internally once again. France Télévisions were studying the possibility of holding a televised selection after some changes in the board of the broadcaster. Nevertheless, plans for a national final in 2012 remain untouched.

Due to the new appointments in the board of France Télévisions and its Enternainment service, preparations for a televised national selection wouldn't have been completed within the deadline set by the European Broadcasting Union for the national finals - the evening of the Heads of Delegation meeting on March 13th.

The French public broadcasting corporation is still interested in carrying out an open and televised Eurovision selection for 2012.

France Télévisions, the public broadcaster in charge of the country's Eurovision preparations, has not confirmed the news. According to their press office, the Shy'm story is "an unfounded rumour", and more information on the French representative in Eurovision 2011 will become public "in one month".

It must be taken into account that last year rumours on Christophe Willem representing France in Oslo arose, and finally Jessy Matador became the country's ambassador in Eurovision 2010.

French broadcaster France 3 have decided upon their representative in Düsseldorf. 21-year-old opera singer Amaury Vassili will be the Frech ambassador in Eurovision 2011. Despite his young age, he is already a successful artist on home soil, having sold 250,000 copies of his debut album.

No news about the song that he is going to sing.

I just visited some news sites talking about this choice... My God... Almost everyone thinks it's already lost... I have to say that the French don't believe in Eurovision anymore, and it's quite unpopular, because they haven't won it since 1977 !

Hope he will be really well ranked, or it's gonna be a problem...

Bad choice!

I was hoping for something contemporary like Shy'm, instead we get the tackiest of all genres (Popera).

I respect opera as an artform, although I don't like it myself. But in Eurovision it's always been real kitsch.

According to my eurovision.tv contacts, France Televisions has not chosen their entry yet. There have been several singers that have been shortlisted and Amaury Vassili is on that list. He is the most popular choice however and a song has been commissioned. If French tv approve of the song and final product, then he will likely be officially chosen.

I'm not sure about Russian family but Ukraine needs MEN, and we DO like hunky men with opera voices (in our recent X-Factor - that's the same share of viewers like Eurovision, 10 mil. ppl, 2 finalists were men with opera voices, not to mention all songs in French, Lara Fabian (even though she's Belgian) etc.).
Ehm, so what do I mean by saying all of this? More MEN for us, pliz :p And we do like France. Esp if it sends something for our taste )))

Well, if you talk about solo pop-opera I think about Alenka Gotar and Malena.
But I can't remember any man, solo (except Didrik, who had incredibly boring song and represented the country which has already won the contest last time) ;) so I can't really predict anything.
Depends of the song and how it will be staged.

ps. I agree about barber
ps2. Considering that Groban releases total crap recently this can be a nice substitude, I'd voted for something like that :)
The jury will like him, imo.

Well France has the juries to back them up and I think they will. So far I'm not fond of this, but will wait for the song. I hope it won't be something predictable though. If it's just opera or popera I won't probably like it, but if they manage to do something unique and fresh with it then it might be cool.

Well, after listening to some of his songs I changed my mind. I was expecting something like Pavarotti, but fortunately I think this is not the case. He's just amazing! His version of Hallelujah!!!

He could get high points from Italy, Spain and central-easter countries where there are many people who love opera + of course, juries.

in the arena, but what about the russian family, the serbian people , or the portugese rock fans ? It's not the arena that's voting...

I don't see why everyone is so impressed, I think people are letting this guy away easily thanks to his looks. For an opera singer he is kinda mediocre in my opinion.

I cross my fingers the song will not be something predictable though. Opera is really not my style at all, and usually it comes across as kind of tacky in Eurovision. I'd like to be surprised thoug; something very fresh, electro-driven, dark but with opera could be interesting, but if we get the random popera ballad or mid/uptempo stuff then I won't like it for sure.

The juries will propably support it as they like everything oldfashion and pretentious.

evilperson
29th January 2011, 02:39
He hasn't even been officially selected yet. No official source has actually confirmed that he will be the definite singer for France (therefore its just a rumour at the moment). Like I said before he seems to be the frontrunner but if the song ends up not being to the broadcasters liking, they will be asking someone else.

I have to agree with you, I listened to several clips. He certainly can sing but he's not THAT great, either. I'm afraid of Didrik kinda disaster.....But i am not really getting too worried or excited yet until we have more information.

Though I would not necessarily count on the juries votes. They didn't really embrace Norway last year, either. You never know.

Well, the choice of language is indeed original, I think we've got it like 1 or 2 times in former Eurovisions.

As for the style of song it could still turn out like your typical Popera stuff, but let's see.

I'm slightly more optimistic now as we're getting a unique language, now Belgium needs to make up for the French part I guess.

Eurovision.tv has yet to confirm anything though.

First of all - live performance, anyone?

Secondly - I dislike when men sing "high", esp in opera but I can forgive him because he's young. Among all men he's gonna have the best vocals, anyway :D As for the song. I thought it would be something less "official". I expected something like Besame Mucho (yep, I'm craving for seducive opera singers) :*) Not gonna vote until I hear the live performance. So far I give him 8, mainly because of the song because I like his vocals more.

Not a fan of the song and I'm getting an Israel 2010 vibe from this one. Much praise all around and little substance behind it. I think the impact of the song will rest entirely on how it will sound live because a poor vocal performance of the song like this can pretty much sink it. Juries will eat this up.

I hear Bolero too and it's very confusing for me because I don't know how EBU can react for that. I mean - will this song be considered as "original"

Apart from that I like it very much, it will score high points from the jury!

I don`t think, that juries will like this. They might hate it for the Bolero cover. ;) However, it isn't a true cover at all. Maybe the first couple of note, but not enough for this song to be disqualified.

This is only song on this year ESC to have the huge quality.
In a flood of kitsch and trash this is the ray of sunshine, which will hopefully back ESC to right direction.

Thank you France on great taste in past years, thank you cuz you keep own tradition.
Merci beaucoup France

Et bien sûr, pour la France 12 points

One of the things that is so great about France is that they aren't afraid to send something different than the normal ESC sound. It seems like they always have something refreshing and sounds different from the rest. But like evilperson said, it does lie entirely on the final performance. If it's weak, it's going to fail miserably. It'll be interesting to see how it's performed, and I'm sure it's going to be one of the most highly anticipated entries of the 2011 final ^.^
