It’s only been a few days, since it was announced that DR (the Danish broadcaster) finally opened their submission period for entries for their national final. Now we got more news from Denmark, and that is that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023 will be held on the 11th of February 2023.

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023

To those who might have missed it, or need a reminder, the Danish national final will focus on Danish culture and will once again feature 8 songs, which has been the case since 2021. However, there are a few surprises about this announcement. First of all, next year’s national final, will once again be held in February instead of March, which it has been done since 2020. Second, for the first time ever, the town of Næstved will host it.

Placement of the host city for DMGP 2023

You might be thinking now “where is Næstved?“, then we can show you on the map, that the city is located on the island of Sjælland (Zealand in English), which is where the capital Copenhagen(København in Danish) also is.

It will be the first time ever, that a city on Sjælland AND outside the capital area, hosts the Danish national final.

Arena Næstved will host the competition, and has space for 7.000+ spectators and was opened back in late 2015.

The arena is the largest multi-purpose arena outside Copenhagen and on the island of Sjælland. The arena made it’s big debut, when it was used as one of the hosting arena’s for the female world cup in Handball in 2015, and is the home arena for the Danish national basketball team, since 2022.

As we can hear, DR is being adventurous for 2023 and doing their best to spread the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix magic around the country every year. Carsten Rasmussen, mayor of the 2023 host city added the following, saying:

  • We are happy that DR has picked Næstved as the host city for 2023. If we must say it ourselves, then it is obvious, that Næstved is a city with lots of music culture. We are ready to stand together, and create once again another big party.

While we’re at it, the junior edition will also be held in the arena the following week, on the 18th of February 2023, tickets are expected to go on sale in November.

With all of that, it means another final is set for the February 11th. Question is, will #YOU be watch Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in 2023?
